Major Model year changes

Looking to buy a used 4.4TDV8 Autobiography soon. Are there any major quality or spec changes I should look out for from year to year. Looking at 2014 to 2016 cars?

As with most of the LR range they seem to slip the smaller stuff in unnoticed so I'd always go as late as you can afford. I'm not aware of anything big changed over the 2/3 years that you mention until 17MY with the infotainment. What there is that may be an issue is the Euro 6 compliance came in for Sept of 16 (66 plate) I think though stand to be corrected by those that know. I think there was a bit of a crossover time where the Euro 5 cars were still being sold off but worth checking if you think it may affect you.

The very biggest change came late in the latter part of 2016, with the introduction of the 2017MY car, with updated instruments and a improved centre screen and infotainment system.

The centre screen on the 2015/16MY cars look like this:

The 2017MY cars look like this:

(there are no physical buttons on either side of the centre screen, making way for a much larger screen with graphics that are more iOS12 and less Windows 3.1 Rolling Eyes )

It's a big improvement and well worth holding out for if funds allow.

Thanks for the info guys. Good advice on going for later cars. I've upped my budget and I'm going to go for a 67 plate car I think. Local dealer told me residuals are better on cars with the updated infotainment

Most of the dealers especially outside of London don't appear to know what you are talking about if you enquire regards EU 6 compliance.
You will find some 65plate cars are EU6, some 16 plate are not but all 66plate should be
If EU6 compliance is an issue then the best guide is the VED rate if looking on the LRAU site as the EU5 cars are £500 + to tax whilst EU6 are £300 +.
If all else fails when enquiring over the phone ask them to lift the bonnet to see if there is an Ad Blue filling point (if you manage to speak to a LR sales person who knows what a bonnet is or how to open it you are doing well).

You will find there are a few 2016 cars on 66 plates that are 2017MY and have the later infotainment.
One of these might get you into the car you want for less.
If you find one check it has had the service action N124 software update.
Best of luck with your search.

I'd also say, most of the toys you really want are on a VSE so look for one of those (which might also have extras), but will be less money than an AB for a newer car! Thumbs Up

Just to add my 2p...

I know this won't change anything your looking at sir but may help others looking at this thread later...

The 15MY 405 ran a completely different Cam Bus system to the early models, this was a big game changer along with LOADS of revisions to common problems, EAS etc etc. So, a much better car to own IMHO Thumbs Up

Is this when the L405 4.4 got the turbo drain mod factory fitted?

Thumbs Up Thanks Craig.
I know when I took mine in for the mod, the mechanic said to me, “ I have just finished that one”, pointing to what looked to me like a nearly new L405, but it was on a private plate and I didn’t think to ask what year it was.

I was quite pleased that he had just done a practice run. Very Happy Very Happy
