Avoid this FFRR at all costs!

It's rather unbelievable this vehicle is actually being sold, let along publically on ebay.
Can anyone spot what's wrong with it?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-LAND-ROVER-RANG...45f88b9cf6

A Category B insurance write off can never be put back on the road and must not be re sold. I asked the seller is he was mistaken, and if it was a Category C but he said it was indeed a Category B and said it was legal to sell it.

So, for anyone interested in the vehicle, it can not be put back on the road and it is illegal to sell the vehicle. So, please avoid this vehicle. I've known people in the past to buy a Cat B unknowingly and they then find out they have a worthelss vehicle and there's not much they can do with it.

A Cat A, B or C can be put back on the road as long as a VIC check has been performed. Remember that this is only the category that the Ins Co deside to label the car as.

The VIC check will enable a new V5C to be issued for the car.

Insurers should notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) of all cars ‘written off’ within salvage categories A, B or C. This notification will set a ‘VIC marker’ against the DVLA vehicle record. While a VIC marker remains set, DVLA won’t issue a registration certificate V5C, or vehicle licence reminder V11.

The VIC marker will only be removed when the car passes a VIC.

As long as the car has a VALID MOT you will pass the VIC check.

When you take your car for a VIC the following must apply:

•repairs must be conducted and the car must be roadworthy and capable of being driven under its own power
•if it's over three years old, the car must be covered by a valid MOT if it's being driven to the VIC
•the person driving the car must be insured
•the car must display front and rear number plates if it's being driven to the VIC - for assistance in obtaining number plates, contact VOSA on 0300 123 9000
A car can be driven directly to and from a pre-arranged VIC without road tax.

You are WRONG!

A Cat B CAN now go back on the road as long as a Vic test is done....ten minute job...As long as insurance are notified prior to insuring it its legal....END OF!

I dont mean to be rude or shout but this is all true as of last year.Cat B did not originally have any yes or no as to whether it could or could not return to the roads. Now however there is NOTHING stopping anyone Vic checking and applying for a V5,insuring it and enjoying it.

Most(not all) Cat Bs were flood, blood, death claims etc etc so were deemed a Cat B(even if NO DAMAGE AT ALL).

How do I know??....Believe me I know. Smile If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

Actually looks like a nice S/C but I would want to speak to the Insurance Company to get the reason it was Cat B Write Off.

It all depends on the price really doesnt it.

Personally I would buy it if I could save about 20%.

At the end of the day the car will dry out, and yes Scarey - you may laugh but the amount of water the AC can pull out of a car is massive, after all if your house floods you use a de-humidifier...

On a humid day if the car is parked and running with the AC on there is a near constant stream of water dripping out of the drain tubes.

I'd still say be very cautious. Last year i bought (knowingly) a cat b audi a3 tdi. lovely car, rung the dvla before purschase as i was under impression cat b was break for spares only. They said rules changed and all fine. Applied for log book and several months (7 in total- on going battle) later they wouldn't issue one and said it needed to registered as a q plate.

Sold the car as unregistered, needs to be q plated, via ebay. Only lost £200 and had 7 months motoring with no expense at all so not a bad buy in the end but i was lucky!!
