Suspension woes

I’m losing the will to live with my suspension. I’m using the iid tool and it’s showing no faults. Yet I get air susp inactive on the dash. The suspension rises to off road mode on the front when I switch off the car and I have to use the iid tool to lower it in the “test valves” menu. Once I re-enable the EAS it creeps back up to off road height again.

Can anyone assist?

As far as i know, yes. I did find a fault using iid tool suggesting the left hand one was at fault so I ordered a new one. However when I went to fit it, I noticed a break in two of the wires to the sensor. I soldered them and that fault cleared but now I’ve got this problem instead.

Any reason why your steering angle sensor could be out of position. Steering wheel off?, wheel alignment done? Track rod ends replaced?

Assuming you rewired the sensor correctly, it's very strange that your IIDTool is reporting no faults.

My first thoughts were either a knackered height sensor or leaky valves, but I would have thought either of these would lead to faults being logged.

Might be worth having a look at the live values when running just incase there's anything strange visible (compressor always running for example or system pressure varying or one of the height sensor readings being completely out of whack).

Symptoms do point to a height sensor... .

I have tried. Not sure if I’ve done it correctly as all I could find was manual calibration. All the setttings in there were 139 and 156
I’ve also tried “test valves” and set the height followed by “exit and keep test mode” to stop it rising and falling. That works for a it then the front drops slightly after a few days.

Ah yes, our old one (2002) I drove like this for quite a while before I managed to get around to fixing it. The problem in my case was the rear left height sensor lever kept popping off and I got sick of reconnecting it so just drove with the EAS in test mode and manually adjusting as necessary.

Assuming it is dropping when you've disabled it by leaving it in test mode, this indicates you have slight leak, but that's a secondary problem - you need to find the cause of it becoming inactive in the first place.

(Eventually I fixed the height sensor properly as I wanted my suspension working again Smile )

Like I said above, check the live values - there may be a clue there.

Edit: Note, that if it does indeed creep up with the EAS in test mode, it may indicate a leaking valve or valves (the main valve block is in the sill under the drivers door on yours).

IT doesn’t creep up in test mode. It’ll stay where I leave it. It probably takes a good three weeks to drop a couple of millimetres.
I wasn’t sure if I was meant to drive around in test mode but it doesn’t seem to be a problem so that’s what I’m doing until I can work out what’s going on.

That said, I’ll be towing next week so I hope it’ll be ok.
