Hello there, nice to meet you all!

After years of wanting a L322 Range Rover (I had an old 3.9 classic a long time ago) I have finally decided to take the plunge and buy one. I also had been looking at Defenders, but they are just too pricey for what you get, and will never be as nice to drive as a Range Rover (I previously had a Puma LR 90XS for a while and so speak from experience!)

With £9k as my self imposed budget there were a lot of different options, but in the end I settled on a high mileage example (140k miles) from 2007 with the TDV8 engine. The condition of the vehicle is great, with a fantastic vogue SE spec, all previous MOTs with no advisories, excellent Pirelli Scorpion Tyres all round, dealer / specialist service history and all systems working perfectly...well except one of the steering column adjusters. Total price £7500, so I am £1500 under budget which goes into my car maintanace fund!

It's a bit of a gamble - I've never bought a car with that high mileage before, but it's in very good condition so I hope it's a gamble which pays off. Certainly I don't think I'll lose much in depracaition, so I'm prepared to spend a bit on the maintenance if required.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has bought a similar high mileage TDV8 FFRR and what your experiences have been? Although 140k feels like a high mileage, my local taxi drivers all seem to keep their small engine Ford / Kia cars until 250K+ so I'm very hopeful that similar miles should be no issue for the bigger and more solid TDV8.

My last disco I bought with 218000 on the clock
And now my ffrr I bought with 180000 on the clock my thinking is high miles good history all the faults have been sorted
I give all my cars a service yearly or 8 to 10 thousand miles which ever comes first
Always warmed up before heavy throttle and always give the motor a minute or two to spool down the turbo before switching off seems to work for me , well bred these cars so for me it's keep on top with regular maintenance

Those high miles stories are inspiring!

Certainly do intend to keep up on the maintenance as it will cost a lot less than the depreciation on a new car.

I bought my 2009 3.6 TDV8 with 112k on the clock which was quite high for me. I paid just over £8.5k for mine which I thought was pretty reasonable. I've done a few bits of preventative maintenance already which I would recommend; oil and filter change, diff oils and transfer box oil, gearbox oil and mechatronic sleeve, rear discs, pads and handbrake shoes etc. I also had a problem with the temperature gauge which was fixed with a new oil temp sensor.

My main fear is the EGRs breaking up and destroying the turbos. Various posts on here about that. Or rust taking over. My tailgate is suffering and the arches are in the early stages so I need to get on top of it.

Is also recommend an IID tool or similar if you haven't got one already. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

I got my 2007 3.6 TDV8 about 8 Weeks ago with 117K on the clock. Bit bitty on Service History so it's had all fluids changed inc Gearbox, Axles and Transfer Box and last week it had EGR's removed and remapped. Down in Devon at the moment and it pulled the Tintent 250 Miles faultlessly. Absolutely love it to bits

Hi Jon G, hope you don't mind me asking but how much did it cost you to change all the fluids and get the EGR's removed? Also what's your impression of the remap?

About £400 got the Gearbox Megaflushed, TransferCase Oip changed and both Front and Rear Axle Oil Changed.
£280 got the EGR's removed, blanked and a Re Map.
All done by Quattro in Selby.
Remap is great more HP, more Torque and slightly better MPG.
Purrs like a Kitten now, well for a Diesel anyway, but is now very smooth on Tickover where's it was quite lumpy before.
Quattro did say that it had been mapped in previous life and this was set to put 10% more fuel in at Tickover which neither they or I could understand.
Very please with the Service and the results, well worth 2 trips up to Selby from Leicester

I’ve got a 07 on just under 90k and frankly a high mileage example has probably had all the known issues resolved, certainly whoever buys ours next will love the work done.

- New EGR’s (no symptoms, but a precautionary check with SDD showed one being lazy and one out of range - when we got them out one was mechanically worn so a good call)
- New thermostat housing - known issue, they crack and slowly loose coolant.
- Around 80-85k it needed front suspension refresh.
- New Alternator - again common for 80k
- Full set of pulleys & belts
- Gearbox Filter & Oils
- Transfer & Diff Oils
- Peltier Unit

I would be very tempted to go higher mileage next time, we got this around 57k - I won’t say how much it was
