Heavy breath

Hi all. Away at the moment so no real access to internet. When revving and you take your foot off so they start to fall it sounds like a heavy breath being taken, is it normal or something else that needs looking at. Not come across it before. Can only hear it when stood outside not from in the car.

Forgot to say, no drive issue/warning lights or smoke.

Alternator.

Just had mine done a few weeks ago. A noise appeared on mine and a week or so later the not charging message popped up! 2009 TDV8 Vogue SE - Bonatti Grey

OK, had the alternator checked, and that is coming back as fine (I am told). They did say that a pipe on an air box was half off, so they sorted that at the service, couldn't hear the Darth Vadar until i got home and was doing something with the window down. Only happens when you take your foot off the accelerator, and as the revs drop Darth Vader does the breath. Before i speak to the garage, can anyone tell me where the air boxes are so i can check them myself, or any other pipe that may do a noise like that.

As i say, no warning lights, no issues when driving it, just the what sounds like a deep intake of air going through a pipe somewhere near the front.

I dont know which engine or year your car is, but lift the bonnet and look for a big black box with a ~4" plastic pipe going into it.

If it is a 4.4 TDV8 then there are two of them, one either side, just behind the headlights.
If it is a 3.6 TDV8 then I think there is only one, on the drivers side. Too many toys, not enough time

if it sounds like a sigh, maybe it could be something disengaging, like the cooling fan ?
or maybe a servo actuator resetting itself ?

Try a few other things, like putting the car in access height, keep/take your foot on/off the brake, turn aircon and heating off, etc.

Mine clicks away to itself after turning the ignition off with various things changing position. Too many toys, not enough time

Sinbad, this will sound abit scary but try this... Try left foot braking when stationary put the car in Reverse (make sure your not near anything behind the car) Now gun the throttle... Even better still do it up a hill! This will provoke the secondary turbo into life! You ought to hear quite some clattering/chattering from the waste gates... Report back if this sounds like the noise you are used to hearing... Thumbs Up

Yep, that sounds scary, If it turns out to be the waste gates, is it a normal noise or is this something that will need a blank cheque. Daft question but the more i learn the better. Just don't remember hearing it since i had it, but then again, don't usually stand outside the car when i did hear it.
