Hi, the voice control on my tdv8 08 has stopped working. When I press the speak button on the wheel “phone” is displayed rather than “ listening”. A few weeks ago my sat nav also died, I’m suspecting the dvd unit in the boot as it’s marking the dvd disc and making noises. Are the two issues related with one relying on the other? In addition my iPhone bluetooths to the car only when it feels like it! Any advice please? Thanks.

I have this problem and suspect the clock spring. Have you tried to see if it works okay when stationary?

IIRC voice control requires a long press on the same button that activates phone with a short press. My theory is that because the clock spring is degrading, when the car is moving the vibrations result in intermittent contact and the long press turns into a series of short presses which activate the phone function. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Mmm? So the problem is entirely due to a faulty button on the wheel you think?
I’ve only had the car 3 months and it was working but once the sat nav stopped working by not reading the disc and actually starting to damage the disc, ie; scoring it near the centre it’s stopped displaying “ listening “ when the voice button is used, I’m thinking the two are related somehow. Not sure I can justify spending £300 getting my satnav DVD player repaired, other choice is a cheapy off eBay but that too could be on its way out for all I know? Seems a common problem.I just don’t like my Rangie having things that don’t work, niggles me no end! I had this exact same issue a few times aswell. Mine usually reset it self once the ignition was turned off (definitely annoying).
I have recently changed my Sat Nav disc for a newer release & although the Sat Nav displays the disc error message a few times (another problem), no problems with the voice command.

I believe that the they are all linked somehow & I may have to get a new DVD reader.

Would you believe it, I tried mine tonight to turn the display off & Nothing!. I now need to investigate further.

Nah mines still silent, unlike the wife! Might try disconnecting the battery n see if that resets anything? Still think the prob is connected to my knackered satnav unit, after all that talks too when working. Torn whether to get it fixed or take a punt on one off eBay.

My thoughts are on the sat Nav unit aswell. The problem with obtaining a second hand unit, is that it's probably going the same way.
Wifes quite at the moment, but no doubt will have something to say regarding a new Sat Nav cost
