Not going to get covered in oil again!

Last year when changing the oil on my 4.2 SC I had a disaster, the oil shot out as I removed the drain plug, I knocked the catch pan over and deposited 8 litres of hot oil over me and drive!! All because the stupid drain is on the side!
So I purchased an EZ drain tap from the States with an angle elbow after that.
Today I changed the oil and filter and fitted it, did require a bit of trimming of a web on the sump casting to get it in and be able to open the tap and fit the angle elbow facing down. All done ✅ so hopefully next year will be really easy and clean.

Brilliant idea Thumbs Up , also eliminates risk of stripping drain plug thread in the sump.
I'm about to do mine , got the oil and filter very tempted to order one.
How long did you have to wait for the fittings.?
Thanks

Does look interesting.

They offer an optional extra hose clip clamp (bottom of their home page) to prevent the tap being activated in off road conditions. How it would hold up in serious conditions I have no idea.

It was a Year ago I ordered it so cant actually remember how long it took to arrive, don't seem to think it was long. seem to remember there was a supplier in Ireland but got mine from U.S.A . Google helped!!!

I, m sure that there is no chance of the valve being accidently opened given its location on the side of the sump, plus its covered with the undertrays. the first picture is orientated wrongly, second picture makes the valve look far larger than it actually is perhaps that makes it look vulnerable, it isn't.
For info part No.s EZ-106 thread size 14mm 1.5 ( Valve) L-001 ( " L" shaped elbow )

Canada

I just wanted to add that I know a few people who use this type of oil drain plug valve here in Toronto, Canada. I have never used one of these before but they seem fairly pleased with its quality and ease of use. No one has ever mentioned it opening up inadvertently, and no issues in the winter time with snow/grime. It does seem like a pretty practical design concept.

Morning all, having worked on plant machinery in the past, having to change engine oil on some machines with the engine totally enclosed and no chance of catching the drained oil we fitted a length of hydraulic pipe with the suitable fittings etc to screw into the sump. with the pipe made long enough to extend beyond the undertray and into a suitable receptacle, with the right fittings and correctly tightened if a hydraulic pipe of 2000psi + it`ll be good for sump pressure. when the job`s done cable tie the pipe up out of harms way. Sorry can`t supply pic`s as I`m doin other things these days.

I've used a similar item from a firm called Fumoto. Made in Japan but available from a UK supplier mine have always arrived within 48 hours of order. They have worked brilliantly on a range of vehicles.

My 3.6 TDV8 needs two, of course, and I've fitted one but would need to remove some metal from the cross-member to fit the second (which would be the most useful in terms of limiting the mess!) and I'm reluctant to do that.

Great product, though. 2012 TDV8 Westminster in the New Forest

Im reluctant purely for the same reason Stan highlight, if it becomes undone (for any reason) the engine runs dry and you are goosed.. I may be over reacting but hey..

What I have started doing is pumping most of the oil out with an electric pump, then undo both bolts and the oil drops straight into the pan underneath. Current:
