22" Wheel Bath & Removing Balance Adhesive

I'm a wee bit OCD about inner rims being as clean as the wheel faces and cannot abide scruffy wheel balance weight adhesive that gets left on inner rims after tyre changes.

I was looking for a container big enough to leave the wheels to soak to make the clean up process easier and less labour intensive

B & Q sell a £4 paddling pool that when filled with water will easily accommodate a 22" diameter wheel shod with tyre (if you have a compressor it's a doddle to blow up & deflate). Fill the pool with water, place the wheel inside and pour in a combination of Bilberry/ White spirit/ washing powder and then leave it to soak for a few hours. On return, using a microfibre/ net cloth the ugly balance weight adhesive comes off and the tar/ contaminants on the alloy easily clean up as new. Works for me 👍

If you do use the paddling pool, remember to either place it on grass or put padding underneath the pool base so you don't damage your wheel face if the pool is on a hard surface.

also ,remove small child from paddling pool when inserting wheel...
Mr. Green

a bit of useless info, i recently had my wheels road force balanced and part of the process is to make the wheels clean...the tyre chap scapped the old weights and old sticky stuff off and then placed the wheel into a steam cleaning machine...
the wheels came out spotless.. ... - .- -.

My other pet hate is alloys that get refurbished on the wheel face but the wheel/ inner rim hasn't been cleaned beforehand and you end up with a horrible brown film on the inner rim that is difficult to remove Rolling Eyes

Clean the wheel properly before having to refurb'd!

Shocked

I gave my car a quick once over in April as it hadn't been done since November.

French motorways in the warmer weather are a nightmare for insects and my windscreen is now plastered - when I clean it later, I might do the rest of the car at the same time Whistle

BTW - I don't have the sticky weights problem - when I needed new tyres (6 weeks ago), I bought new wheels too - I keep meaning to clean the old set and advertise them Embarassed

Will give it a try - I have a 'bug shifter' sponge, but I'm always worried it will scratch the screen.

I was hoping it might rain and soften things up, but I might have to get the hose out Rolling Eyes
