We will be changing a few demonstrators on 1st March, therefore I thought that I would post the details of our Range Rover here.

Apple licensing regs. For some reason it has to be sold as an 'extra' as opposed to being part of the vehicle as I understand it, otherwise the iPod functionality side of the media system would need to be licensed. Most dealers probably wouldn't have listed it separately, granted!! ![]() ![]() James ![]() |

Exactly the point....... A wire is not subject to licensing. The 'vehicle' cannot function as an iPod device in standard form, it only has 'capability', hence the requirement for an optional extra.

Ahem, actually crApple have been trying to license the socket, with some degree of success. Ever noticed how some of the aftermarket IPOD leads don't charge them? Those are the ones who wouldn't pay crApple for the privilege of being able to. There was even mention of a hardware encryption chip on the socket at one point. Nice touch for those of us with 40 quid audiophile cables. Do a google on it - you will be amazed at all the underhand stuff that Jobs and his merry band of tossers get up to. ![]() http://developer.apple.com/programs/mfi/ |

Is the cable not just a 3.5mm stereo jack then for audio o/p? |

It is full iPod connector to allow complete control of the iPod via the RR interface. This allows the pod to be left in the cupboard permanently. *Gone* Discovery3 HSE

Same as a lot of cars come with as standard now. Even many cheap 10k (new) cars have the apple socket. |
