2010 Sat-Nav update alternative

My 2010my Vogue is still running the original sat-nav maps. My local LR dealer has just told me that an upgrade will cost £185 and they can do it sometime after 2nd July.

Does anybody know of a legitimate way to get this done cheaper? and hopefully quicker Question
I have a perfectly good app on my phone, so can do without the update. It seems a lot for mapping data generally available much cheaper for other uses.

Waiting to hear Cool Andrew

this has been discussed many times and the conclusion is no..

the 2010 to 2012 FF's have hard drive sat nav which only a dealer can update ...even then the latest maps are only up to 2014...

there is one option , which is a navigation box connected to a media box ...this results in something like igo primo on the screen but the cost is around 5 to 600 pounds which is very expensive..

a stand alone sat nav or phone mapping is the only viable option at the moment.. ... - .- -.

Thanks Stan. I will make-up as it is, and use Navigon on my phone if I need up to date maps.
I suspected that OR maps might not be bang up to date but 2014 is ridiculous and they didn't advise me if this. Andrew

its frustrating that the system they use in the 2013 onwards also has a hard drive but is updated via a usb stick...why LR cant load that particular firmware onto ours to give us the same option..
with the masses of FF's in those years wanting up to date maps, imagine the extra revenue LR would generate .. ... - .- -.

Can you please provide further information on that navigation box connected to a media box? Is this an article I can purchase and install, to have up to date maps?

There was also somebody who was trying to get into the HDD a few months ago. They were buying a Firewire adaptor. But I can't find that thread now.... Be good to know how he got on.. Anyone remember that one?

. Cheers, Greg
