Horrible noise from steering

Just driven a mile to doctors this morning and on turning it to parking space slowly there is a horrible noise when turning the steering wheel. Sounds to be near side and sounds like a metallic squeal / scraping noise. Any ideas? Booked in for service next week typical.
Should I drive to lr specialist which is about 6 miles away to see if they can take a look or should I just call rac to check it out to be even safer?

Decided to drive slowly to the local independent Land Rover dealer and he has diagnosed bottom ball joint on n/s suspension. He is hopefully ordering part in for tomorrow and will fit it then. Has also let me have a courtesy car in the mean time.

I really agree. They have phoned back this evening to confirm parts arriving tomorrow and should be sorted tomorrow afternoon.
