4.4 tdV8 oil Level.

When changing the oil in a 4.4tdv8 it is very easy to overfill the engine with new oil and this can have serious consequences.
The manual says the oil level should be checked at normal working temperature, but after leaving the engine to drain for30 minutes.
I have found 8 litres of new cold oil to show half full on the electronic oil level indicator.
Run the car to circulate the oil, fill the filter etc and bring the temperature up to normal working level.
Leave the car stationary on level ground with the engine off.
Re-check the oil level after 30 minutes and it will show very nearly “Max” on the indicator.
At this time add a very small (1/4 litre max) to bring the level carefully up to Max.
Re- check the level again after bringing the temperature up to normal and leaving to settle for a further 30 minutes.
When the level is checked cold, ie first thing before starting the engine it should show at least one full notch below max. or it will be overfilled when hot.
Mike.
