Missing service history

Hi All,

An opinion please. I purchased my 2007 VSE from a well known lhd dealer in the UK in 2016, it was advertised as "full main dealer service history" but after 18 months of phoning, visiting and emailing he has given up trying to get the history (allegedly with the supplying dealer in Holland) and no longer responds to my contact.

On principle I am going to follow this through to the bitter end, under consumer law, a misleading description could lead to a 25% discount.

Given that I paid £14,000, would you tell me what value you place on FMDSH.

depends if and when you sell it.....if you are going to keep it for a while then 'your' service history might be enough when you sell.. ... - .- -.

Well OK Stan, but, if when you where going to buy a £14,000 FFRR and one had a FMDSH and the other had nothing, how much cheaper would the "nothing" car have to be to tempt you?

It’s a tough one - 14k for a 2007 in 2016 seems high to me even with a full history

Was the mileage very low or is there just a big premium for LHD ?

Doubt I’d have paid 10 for one without.

Yeh, big premium for LHD unfortunately.

What i'm trying to get to is how much I have lost out by not getting the FMDSH as the basis for a claim as a result of the misdescription.

For a claim, you really need ‘evidence’ - probably in the form of similar mileage and condition vehicles with and without.

Alternatively, argue that you simply wouldn’t have bought it without - and would like to return it - and go for the full 25% as contingency for a major failure due to lack of maintenance

Try putting your car details into a car buying website and see how much difference a service history makes?

Is Gary Elliot still active on the forum, I might call him for expert advice.
