it's high time I gave Essex 4x4 some recognition for their excellent service.

Last year I looked around for an independent to take over the maintenance of my RRs. I live in central London and wanted to escape the main dealer rip-off/lack of interest/lack of ability.

After a bit of research I turned up Essex 4x4 in Wickford, near Basildon. It's about 30 miles from the City and very easy to access.

I have now used them a couple of times: last summer for a major service plus all sorts of other odds and sods, and last week to fix a faulty rear wiper motor and front door latch.

Overall: I cannot recommend them highly enough. They get customer service. They are friendly. They are extremely knowledgable on L322s (and all other LR products, have all the diagnostic equipment). They will tackle all sorts of jobs that dealers wouldn't even think of (eg: cleaning up and waxoyling the subframes). And finally the cost is absolutely fair.

Fred (main technician) and Kate (runs front office) both worked at LR dealers for many years but decided to go independent as they felt they could do a better job on their own. They were right.

Kate is very helpful and friendly and is a bit of an LR expert herself. Fred is very unassuming but nothing short of an LR guru. He loves working on these cars and it shows.

They get all the small things right as well: they were only too happy to run me to and from the station on both occasions. And last week even though the car was in for some general fixes, I was presented with a report on the car detailing tyre and brake wear, battery and antifreeze condition and a general condition report. All very professional.

For me I will always use them instead of a dealer, the extra hassle of driving out of town is easily compensated by the quality of the work and the attitude and friendliness of the staff.

Just to follow up on my original post about Essex 4x4...

My Td6 had its annual service at Essex 4x4 last week and, as I have come to expect, it was a first rate job. Cannot rate them highly enough. They really understand L322s.
