how do i know it's an L322

Hi

I have an L322. I know that because everyone calls them L322 and they called the previous model P38 and the new one L405.

But what makes it an L322? I thought the chassis number might contain L322 but it doesn't.
So where does L322 come into it?
I'm not sure that's very clear but I know what I mean.

It’s the designation that Landrover use

Every manufacturer has something similar for cars that have different revisions but are marketed under the same name - like a 911 - otherwise how else would you refer to it

My understanding is that the "3" denotes "3rd" generation.

The "22" I'm not sure but probably some internal LR prototype variant which was eventually the main production model. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

This will disappoint you I’m sure! Rolling Eyes

The L322/P38/L405 denotes the building or room number the model was designed in at the Lode Lane site... Told you it was disappointing sir Neutral Neutral Wink

Actually it doesn't really explain anything. Is it just knowledge that someone has acquired and it has become generally known or does L322 appear somewhere in RR sales literature ? Surely they just called it mark 3.
I guess the same applies to BMW E numbers.

L322 is the model. It was designed under BMW, as you know. the BMW code was L30 Land Rover used L322.

Like an E34 M5 or an E39 M5. It defines what model it is. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

If you speak to anyone factory related then the 322 is known as the LM Range Rover...

So it's just acquired knowledge that has become generally known. It's not in the handbook or part of the chassis number.
If you didn't know there would be nowhere you could look, on the car, or in any LR literature that stated it's an L322.
