At the moment I'm considering send the RR back to the dealer I bought it off a few weeks ago as there is a brake fluid leak on the front to rear lines, they look pretty corroded and I'm surprised it passed the mot in February as this hasnt just happened overnight.

But my question is has anyone replaced these brake lines before? Its the ones that run under the plastic trim in the pic - which I cant get off either at the moment!

Ive replced mine quite an easy job if you can get underneath. Its a common problem and joe90 did an excellent write up guide which i think is in the wiki. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Yes, they do run above that plastic trim.

I had an advisory on the MOT for the rear brake pipes a few weeks ago so decided to replace them all. When I took the old ones off, I was surprised by how corroded they were. The MOT testers do not take off any trim to inspect the brake lines (unlike MOTs for lorries) so can only go on what they can see. Unfortunately the rear brake lines are so hidden, it is impossible to see how bad they really are.

There is a union behind the rear part of the front passenger side wheel liner. The pipes then run behind that piece of trim (which will come off with some use of penetrating oil) and hides quite a lot of corrosion, then behind a large plastic cover for the fuel tank/fuel filter that comes off with about 8 bolts - some which are a bit tricky to reach (not a bad idea to change the filter at the same time as doing the brake pipes). The o/s pipe then goes up over to the other side and is clipped on with 2 clips to the body shell (and can rust really badly up there).

My advice would be if you have any concern about corrosion on the rear brake pipes, then it is probably much worse than you think. Anything earlier than an 07 is on borrowed time. Current:

I have done the job myself following the instructions that Joe90 has referenced in WIKI. If you are Ok with spanners it is an easy job, but it is not a quick job.

Given you have only just bought the RR, I would put is back to the supplying dealer and get them to fix it. I would expect them to do it free as well as this is a safety issue they should have picked it up in their pre sale inspection. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Been on to the dealer and he has offered to pay for the repairs, quite surprised and restored some faith in used car sales companies. Just need to send him a price and he'll pay garage direct.

It's not only the old cars that need attention to brake pipes... These are from a '10 plate I saw today.
