4.2 supercharged, differences between 2006 and 2007 onwards

Can’t seem to work out what the difference is between the 2006 and 2007 onwards model. I’ve noticed the ignition key goes into the dashboard rather than next to the gear stick but that’s about it

Help!

As well as mentioned different front seats ,so really interior /electrical upgrades basic running gear all the same as 05/06
models Range rover 4.2 SC 06MY.

had since may 16 so far about 9 thousand miles had to put a transfer box in but I new it had a transmission noise when I bought it. otherwise ok only thing not working is the parking sensors. I love it to bits as it puts a smile on me face every time I drive it.I think whatever happens to it now I'd fix ,its going to be a long term car as I,ve always wanted a RR ever since I saw the first one Thumbs Up Range rover 4.2 SC 06MY.

Later cars also have electric handbrake , wired for deployable steps along with all the other updated electrics already mentioned .They seem to fetch a premium over the original model of around 3K comparing similar condition and mileage
I have the 2006 model with less than 90k which I purchased in December and think it’s great value 4.2 SC - sold , now bought back

The updated interior looks a little nicer especially as that’s the one place you look at every time you drive.
Am bordering on a 5litre but it’s hrd to justify another £10k !

Just my opinion I'll stick with the 06my just think as they get newer they just get more complicated and with stuff you don't really need .I.e electric handbrake !!! what's wrong with a lever. The 06 my SC was fully loaded anyway to the tune of nearly £13 grand more than a vogue. Plus if u find a nice pre june 06 ( I think ) it's half the road tax so there's another £250 a year for fuel. Btw I would be interested in some real world fuel figures as I see on here some people saying they can get 20 mpg out of their 4.2's even If I drive with a feather foot I can't get close to that. Maybe I should treat to some new plugs and a tickle on the computer to see If I've got any O2 issues. Mine was a main dealer px with 73K on first owner only did 27.5K in six years second did 45K in 4 years but spent nearly !0k at the dealer. Range rover 4.2 SC 06MY.

My mate gets 15mpg from his. I have a heavy foot so imagine it will be circa 12mpg

Same really average is around 15mpg best ever 17.1 on along steady 300 ish motorway journey.
get one you'll find out. you'll do your first tank in no time Big Cry because they sound great Thumbs Up
you can easily achieve single figures in sport mode Shocked Range rover 4.2 SC 06MY.

There are several big changes including to the running gear and reliability.. I go through them thouroghly in my range rover book. I would upgrade if it were me. I sold an 06 with the mindset to buy an 07 in the future.

1) Interior
-- The seats, door cards, dash, center console are all different, the biggest substantive change is that the 2007-2009 wear better. BMW painted plastics including those in the early L322, but in 2007 the plastics are the color they are so (all the way through) when the foundry grey in the 2003-2006 wears down it's a different color underneath.

Doors are nicer in the 2007+

The 2007-2009 is objectively more wear resistant and will look better longer. The 2006 requires some touching up here and there.

2007 is more modern looking but there is one less "big" cup holder. There are also two glove boxes in the 2007. The 2003-2006 glovebox seems like it is made to carry a full size sidearm, the 2007-2012 do not seem to have this in mind so glove boxes are a "push" seats too may be considered a push, but I like the 2007-2009 better.

-- Steering column lock style is different you may want to google "l322 steering column lock".

-- the interior dash is different and in 2008 the tops are all leather wrapped. I would describe the interior as tighter. When offroading the dash in the 2006 rattled more than my 2011 I owned and the 2009 I used. 2009 Autobiography is a very nice truck with full leather wrap dashboard.

-- The stereo is more protected from the elements, and 2008 has slight changes to improve water repellence -- I'd do a quick google search re the water ingress in the rear so that you will know about MOST failure and how to deal with it.

2) All 2007-2009 Supercharged Range Rovers come with automatically locking rear differential standard. This may not seem important but it completely transforms the capabilities of the car. The Range Rove is much better on ice and in the snow and offroad. It's one of the best off road vehicles I have ever driven with the rear locker. There is quite a bit more regarding this aspect in my book

3) The electronics in the 2007 are almost fully Jaguar Land Rover which makes it more reliable than the 2006.. While the 2006 is much more reliable than the previous BMW 4.4 it is not as reliable as 2007-2009 because it has a somewhat weird mix of BMW and Jaguar electronics. I believe the Air Conditioning is upgraded in the 2007 as well, the quad zone air conditioning I've been told by a mechanic is a very fine unit that is better than the triple zone.

The 2007-2009 Range Rover Supercharged is perhaps the most reliable Range Rover ever made, and arguably one of the best. Perhaps one of the best SUVs ever made. Very minor issues like pumps being wired backwards.

I got 20 mpg on the highway and about 17.8 mixed with the 4.2 maybe 1 mpg better with the 5.0 SC in US gallons. I would accelerate fast but brake slowly and try not to stop. OffRoadRover.com An American Western Range Rover Off Road Blog

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Supercharged 5.0 SC V8 Stornoway Grey

I obviously drive very softly.

In my 5.0 S/C, on just a motorway journey cruising at ~70mph the onboard average is around 25mpg.

Dropping that to a more typical journey of fighting across London followed by a long motorway stretch and I manage from 19-23mpg depending on how bad the London traffic is.

If it's just a traffic/town journey, or as I discovered over the Easter weekend, loads of tight, windy, narrow country lanes in Penzance, ~13mpg is all I can manage!
