Thanks Craig - I will get this done when they do the forced regeneration.

Set off to my local independent to have a forced regeneration done on the DPF. Had not got a mile down the road when it went to a red warning and into restricted performance mode. At the garage the lads hooked up the computer and away they went.
No luck - car would not regenerate DPF - said it was too full to regenerate. They tried spraying a cleaner into the DPF - again no luck. Then they took the exhaust off and tried cleaning it with a different fluid - some gunk came out but it still would not allow a forced regeneration. Next option was to replace the sensor - no joy.

So it looks like a new DPF is needed. The lads also did a smoke test to see if there was an underlying issue with a split pipe - no joy there either. I only recently bought the car from The Vogue Centre near Oldham. James the owner has told me the DPF is covered by my warranty - I will speak to the warranty company and hopefully he is right. Have to say the whole episode has left me a bit jaded about the Range Rover.

My main concern is why this has happened? I have had more issues with this vehicle in 3 weeks than I had with my old Amazon in 3 years! Still cannot wait to get it back. Had to do a 400 mile journey on Friday with a 16 foot Ifor Williams trailer on behind - my soft top Defender ( much as I love it ) does not quite have the same levels of comfort, performance or sound proofing as the Range Rover.

Unfortunately the DPF issues are probably down to the previous owner doing too many short journeys. Not really the fault of the car.
As for the smoke and the funny smell, as stated, it will be the FBH working as it should. It kicks in below 16c on the Diesel engines to assist warm up.

I think you are right about the previous owner. Had an issue on the way home from collecting the vehicle - said suspension fault but turned out to be a frozen sensor. Hopefully we will be back on the road soon. I have more work in the pipeline down your way - must keep an eye out!

The previous member who changed his DPF reported that you have to cut the pipe and use sleeves and clamps to insert the new DPF. ( ie you don’t replace the cat etc or silencers. I think the system is made from stainless steel.

The lads at my local independent replaced the sensor but to no avail. Got on to Warrantywise and they are arranging for the DPF to be collected and taken to a specialist DPF cleaning service. Yes the DPF has to be cut out of the system - the lads have already done this to attempt to clean it themselves - and welded back in. So I hope this specialist will solve my problems - can't wait to get the vehicle back.

So a few days ago I got the vehicle back from my local independent. The dpf had been cleaned by a company in England who returned it with a printout of things like backpressure before and after cleaning etc. Fitted to vehicle and good to go. Over the course of the next 3-4 days I covered about 100 miles - there were a lot of short, local journeys involved - just about to head up to Donegal for the weekend and I get DPF Full - See Handbook. The last time it happened I tried the 20 minutes at 50mph plus a couple of times but to no avail. I then setoff to go to my local independent for a forced regeneration, got about a mile down the road and I got the red dpf warning and limp home mode. They were unable to do a forced regeneration and the dpf was sent to England for cleaning. I don't want a repeat of that. Should I try a regeneration but do it with Command Shift to keep the revs up? Anybody else out there get a dpf full warning after such a short number of miles? Is it just me not used to the vehicle? Help please!!

No doubt let your indy know. You're not doing anything wrong. I'm no expert but if you've hd it professionally cleaned it should be good.

Mine needs a clear on the yellow warning once every 5-6 weeks.

Maybe there a sensor that's duff? And maybe since you've had it done doing the yellow warning clear will reset the ECU?

If it were me I'd try it. Clearing it on a 50mph run that is.

Definitely no need to use the command shift / keep the revs up. You just need a steady 50mph. I usually hit the stopwatch as soon as I get up to 50 and mine clears in 3 mins.

Indy replaced the sensor at the time as well as doing a full smoke test to see if any pipes were split. I think I will have a word with them and try the 50mph thing myself. Thanks for your reply - I waited about 30 years to finally buy a Range Rover and am not going to let a few problems put me off!
