I'm going to look at a 2016 /66 L405 FFRR tomorrow which looks promising. There was another car of interest last week which I got insurance quotes on and was asked every time "Does the Vehicle have a Tracker"

I read somewhere that the L405's come with some sort of tracking device as standard - So my questions are:

1. Will it be on the 2016/66 Model?

And

2. Do Insurers recognise it as being an adequate system, enabling me to declare the car as having a Tracker?

I have had the same issue recently.
I am upgrading from a MY16 to MY17, my current insurers Aviva won't insure the car unless I fit a recognised Thatcham tracker unit but they insure my current car without so go figure.
I looked around and found another well known insurer to cover me without a tracker for a lot less than I currently pay.

In answer to your question OP they only have the InControl tracker, in my experience some may find this adequate but Aviva would not accept it.
I would suggest you shop around like I did as you may not actually need one and you may get a pleasant surprise. I used one of the compare the market types FYI.

They don't (Incontrol app aside if fitted) have a tracker as default. - not even sure if the Incontrol thingy is Thatcham approved. - I may be wrong.

Worth double checking and investigating if the car you are looking at doesn't already have a tracker - despite what the dealership may tell you. Remember most insurance companies wont touch these cars without a cat 5 or 6 tracker - so how did the previous owner insure it ???

This is my personal experience.
The dealership I bought my 405 from in November tried to bluff and assert the car didn't already have a tracker and of course were happy to sell me a new one. I began to smell a rat and luckily managed to get the phone number of the previous owner of the car who was very helpful and confirmed that only 8 months earlier he had had a state of the art tracker fitted and that he definitely handed over all the paperwork etc for it to the dealership. He was able to give me details so I also contacted the customer service of the tracker company concerned who were also very helpful. They said they get these "questions" quite a lot. They "ping'd" the car and proved it was still fitted and working in the car.

When I called back somewhat angrily the dealership and suggested the deal was about to be cancelled - they amazingly within 30 minutes suddenly found the paper work etc etc.

My understanding is that it would have 'In Control Secure', the LR tracker system and that this is Thatcham 5, a lower standard than Thatcham 6 (6 seems to require a separate card that needs to be in the vehicle to avoid an alert). Privilege (part of Direct Line) seem to recognise/accept In Control Secure. Only Range Rovers since 1988

- other way round - cat 5 is higher protection than cat 6. Cat 5 systems use a driver identification card. Cat 6 usually doesn't so cat 6 can't provide for automatic alert triggering. They also don't have remote immobilisation

In Topix the spec for my car states "Stolen Vehicle Tracker" I suspect this is referring to the "In Control Secure System", so I guess I could tick yes to the box asking "Does the Car have a Tracker fitted" without feeling dishonest, as I suppose technically it does.

However, is this In Control Secure System adequate, or do many other owners prefer to up it to something like a Vodafone Tracker system?

The incontrol secure Cat 6 system is perfectly adequate for me. The big difference is that a Cat 5 system needs a "token" - which means carrying something else as well as your car key. For it to be of any benefit whatsoever, the token needs to be kept entirely separate from the key (i.e. you can't carry it on the same keyring). That way, if your keys are stolen to take the vehicle, the tracking centre knows there is a problem when the car moves off. I can't be bothered with all of that. It's bad enough having to carry a car key around. To be honest, if my car was stolen I'm not sure whether I'd want it back anyway as it's likely to get trashed. After a few years, as the value of the car falls, the insurance companies won't be bothered about a tracker. If their computer systems were up to scratch they wouldn't bother asking if you had one on a <3 year old FFRR anyway as it's standard fit. It's like asking you if it has an alarm. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

Agree CAT 6 is fine but if the car is valued at around £100k or over most insurances will want you to have a CAT 5 which imo is what LR should be fitting.

You should have no problem with the standard CAT 6 aja .

I was on the rr website and it mentions cat6....not sure if that’s just my18’s or earlier...

I didn’t know if the car had one or not when I insured it, so replied no to the question,and still got the insurance....might of got better offers if better informed  Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

From what I understand, this 2016 I've bought (and years onwards I guess) does have a CAT 5 system. The difference in declaring with a sat nav saw the lowest quotes for me drop from £1,300 per annum, to £829 per annum, so a significant difference.

Maybe call your insurers and advise them, you may get a rebate for the remaining term, if nor you'll certainly see a reduction in quotes at renewal.

If it helps you can print off the "Certificate of Installation" for the Thatcham cat 6 Stolen Vehicle Tracking System.

Select the Incontrol Secure tab scroll down and "view certificate".

All applicable details like vehicle reg owner etc. are listed.

I have found that insurance companies want a cat 5 on full fat RR, made as I am in central London. As said above the standard fit is a 6. Cat 5 can be fitted by most LR dealers or a specialist

I found, after receiving a competitive quote for a MY17 car that the insurance co wanted a tracker and were quite happy with a CAT6 version. I have asked for this in writing as they were adamant this level was acceptable but refused to accept the InControl system possibly as they are now aware of it's abilities.
I have gone ahead with a cheap £199.00 job + subscription and by doing so my new car is cheaper to insure than a MY16 car so I'm happy.
