Looks great! You could start your own YouTube detailing channel now Paul!

Did you use a machine?
. Cheers, Greg

Thanks Greg - no way, definitely not up to that level, but I'm certainly very happy with the results given ~5 hours work overall so far.

I'm sure the experts would make it look even better and improve the paintwork further, but at a much higher cost. I bought ~£90 of stuff off Amazon (upgrading my car washing kit to include lambs wool mitt, clay mitt, etc.) as well as the various detailing products, pads and clothes, so for that fairly small outlay (with enough of everything to last years), I think it's certainly worth the effort, and I had a very enjoyable morning! We were in Halfords this afternoon getting some bits for fiancé's car, and she's now treated me to a Meguiar's bucket with grit grid for the bottom, and some AutoSol polish for the exhaust tips Smile.

A few more areas I will play with next time (e.g. the door sills, inner door/boot frames, etc.) but for now all the exterior paintwork has been looked after and protected against anything else the remainder of Winter and Spring can throw at it. Apart from the roof - still need to do that, but ran out of time today before the rain came in.

This was all manual application using pads and dimpled applicators. My fairly old machine is somewhere in a box in storage in Poole, so I decided to see how much improvement I can get the old fashioned way before I spend time hunting that out on a future weekend.

Good work on getting those scratches out Paul - the car is looking really nice now Smile

Like Greg, I'd be interested if you used a machine, but as you hadn't mentioned you had bought one, I am guessing it was good ol' elbow grease?

Keep up the good work!

Mark

Thanks Mark - yes, all manual application and elbow grease I'm afraid here!

I have got an old polisher somewhere back at home in Poole, but I can't instantly think where it is given recent house moves, and I wasn't willing to wait until I'm back there next weekend to hunt for it, so just went for manual effort this morning.

For those surface scratches, wasn't a problem at all to remove with the Farecla compound and dimpled applicators.

I also did my first IID CCF update today, using the provided configuration options to enable the digital speed display in the middle of the speedo, which is something I'd been looking for.

I reset them via the DualView screen and that seems to be holding fine now.

Hi Paul,

Could you please let me know how you did this? MY2010 Range Rover Vogue SE

Slightly scared myself when the clock date/time reset itself after that, but I assume that's normal when a new CCF is uploaded and the ECU's rebooted?

Mine does the same. So - I hope - it’s normal Smile

Also resets any audio settings like bass, etc. What do I put here then?

Is showing the digital speed this setting:

IPC-Instrument Pack: Digital Speed

And set to ‘Display’. What do I put here then?

Screenshot from my IIDTool attached.

But yes, it's Car Config -> IPC-Instrument Pack -> Digital Speed/Digital Speed Units

I think my "Digital Speed" was set to something weird like "Displayed if trip computer different to speedometer", so I wasn't getting anything.

I changed it to "Display" and updated the "Digital Speed Units" option to "Second display units same as trip computer", and then got the digital speed readout showing as per the picture below.

you can also keep the digital display as 'mph' when you change the main speedo to kph , very handy when driving abroad.. ... - .- -.

@Zim, you need a Gap IID tool.

As well as letting you read any fault codes, you can make changes to the Car Configuration File (CCF).

So you can, for example, get the digital speedo, alter ride height, etc.

If you search the forum, you’ll find lots about the tool.

Hope this helps. What do I put here then?

(Ah, sorry - I assumed both Zim and GAC23 were asking for the IID/CCF config steps, didn't mean to ignore Zim's question if it was more about what tool is needed to make this change!)

I got over excited about digital speedo and forgot to think Zim might be asking a different question. What do I put here then?

All done and working.

Thanks again @paulbrown22

The other thing I always have to reset after a CCF edit is the one touch windows. What do I put here then?
