Franchised Dealer or Indy for purchase?

As title chaps, your thoughts please. I've seen a Vogue SE which I rather like but it's at a "Specialist Cars" type of place, not a main dealer.

Trouble is, these indy places can't offer LR warranty and my past experience of their own warranties is that they aren't worth a fart. Plus the car I like is very strongly priced and about 10% over where I would expect it to be at an Indy. I would pay the asking price at a main dealer but the facts are that I don't trust used car salesmen.

I was thinking of asking my main dealer to try and trade it with the indy place so I can buy through someone who can do the whole approved LR thing but not sure if I'm being paranoid. Like I said, past experience tells me that the overwhelming majority of car salesmen are pure unadulterated crooks and at my regular place I have a bloke who I trust 100%. Had the last 6 cars from him, roughly one a year between SWMBO and I. Not keen to change that really, but I do like the look of this SE.

Meh, it's only a car. I'm thinking leave it. There'll be another one along shortly, no ???

Help !!

if buying >5 years old, the warranty offered by both are just the usual, reduced cover, mech breakdown insurance, so makes no odds, Id buy from indy and save a couple of grand

..thats my logic anyway ...I bought my 2004 from an indy for nearly £3k less than main dealers wanted for same spec/mileage/age...but then I only had a 3 month "warranty"

I certainly wouldnt buy from an Indy if they are around the same price as main dealer, but cant offer the same package of factory backed warranty etc

for nearly new, or eligible for real LR warranty, id go to a dealer cheers

You dont trust used car dealers! Censored

Main dealers are used car dealers! If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

Now Now Mick.......

I guess you get what you pay for at a Main Dealer you pay for the Factory backed warranty and the assurance that you can always "Drop In" when something goes wrong.

At an Independent Dealer you should pay about £1500 less and get a good quality used car aftermarket warranty.

We use Warrantywise id the LR warranty has expired and regardless of what you may have read about after-market warranties they do cover "Everything" in their top of the range version and they do pay out unless its a clear case of wear and tear and the customer trying it on. If they did not we would not use them as we provide the warranty without cost to client and get no commission or incentive to do so.

*Please start a seperate thread if you want to argue about aftermarket warranties....

Its a personal choice and having choices is a good thing. Thumbs Up

Yep, having thought about this long and hard, and remembering the aggro of taking one of those "Specialist" places through the courts, I'm sticking to main dealer only.

Nice car, yes. Worth the risk, no. One a 5+ year old car I might but this one's a shade over 2. Nah, I'll find another one in a franchised dealer.

Thanks for the input chaps.
