Anyone got a Freelander 2? Message on dash

My neighbour has just bought a 56 plate Freelander 2 and it’s been stood for a couple of days. He came to see me yesterday to say it was turning over but wouldn’t start.
I tried it and it eventually started following a puff of black smoke from the exhaust. I said it looks like he might have a glow plug issue.
He said that there was a message on the dash saying “HDE OFF”. I’ve googled it but I can’t find anything.
Does anyone know what this message refers to?

Possibly. I didn’t see it myself, my neighbour told me about it after it had gone off.

Probably hdc

Flashes up if battery low, then as alternated starts pumping charge in the message goes off Remember:- amateurs built the ark
