Do you mean heater fan?

I’d start by checking fuses just in case.

If fuses ok, most likely final stage resistor (FSR aka Hedgehog). Located in RH footwell behind control panel. Needs a bit of contortion to reach, but can be swapped out without much dismantling.

Search for FSR will no doubt yield advice and probably photos. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

Just make sure, then make sure again, you have the replacement FSR properly seated in its locating hole, otherwise you will be replacing it again, in short time Thumbs Up .

As Joe mentions, make sure the fsr is seated properly, it is cooled by the fan and if it's not cooled properly, then it overheats and blows, costing you another 50 quid.

You can check the fan hasn't siezed by removing the pollen filter housing and turning the ignition on. That should expose the fan blades and you may be able to tell if it''s siezed or not by turning the blades by hand or by a long screwdriver.

If it's stiff to move, then the likelihood is that the fan has failed.

Good news is it''s a BMW part and costs about 80 quid. Bad news is you need to take the dash/stereo/ventilation out to get to it.

It''s not hard to do, but requires nerves of steel to dismantle you pride and joy to get to the fan.

Simon,

If the fan has started working again, I would still suggest taking the pollen filter housing off (2 minute job) to access the fan.

Some judicial spraying of lubricant into the centre of the fan (not the centre of the blade) may help prolong the life of the fan motor.

The bearings in the motor dry out and make it harder and harder for the motor to spin, which in turn, draws more and more current through the fsr, shortening it''s life too.

You'll need it. I remember trying to get a replacement OBD connector......no chance, would have had to buy another loom. Big Cry
