It's definitely at the top of my list but the unfortunate thing is, I'm away as of Wednesday and not back until the following Monday.

Apparently the newer cars are much more prone to rust in those areas then the old ones were. I was once told that the 02 - 05 ones don't really rust there, the 06-09 ones tended to rust there and the 09 - 12 ones will always have marks there. LR fitted covers on the doors to cover it on the newer models but it didn't seem to keep it at bay.

I'm a bit different to the others, if the car was perfect in every other way, I'd negotiate a discount to get the bits that you can see sorted and go from there. Check the MOT history to see if there's any advisories issued on it for rust anywhere else.

Unfortunately though I'm looking for either a Vogue SE or an autobiography. I think I'm going to keep the budget to under 20k as I've seen a fair few under this price point, just with higher mileage which isn't really a concern for me.

Finding one without any rust I think may take some time.

What exactly is the tailgate rust you refer to? I had a 2002 L322 Vogue which had rust bubbles on the upper tailgate along the bottom edge at each end..is this what you are seeing on 2010 models?

Yes exactly. There's also rust on the rear arches.

OK, here's a question; Is it better to find a car that doesn't have rust but isn't my favourite colour combo or buy the car with the perfect combo but a little bit of rust?

It seems very difficult to even get decent service from some of the dealers, they just don't seem that bothered about coming back to me when I ask about the rust etc.

Anyway, your thoughts would be appreciated.

You'd be surprised. Unfortunately all the one's I like with a black/ivory combination are up north and about 2 hours away.

I phoned one yesterday and he said he'll have to wait for the snow to clear before he can take some photos of the arches etc!!!

If you found the perfect spec but with tailgate/rear arch rust; could you not factor fixing the rust into the price? I've no idea what the cost is, I admit, but it's maybe a bargaining point?
