locking wheel nuts

Hi, There is a way to get them off but you will have to buy new wheel locks,

Find a socket that has multi splines not octagonal that is slightly smaller than the outside circumference and whack it on with a hammer it has to cut a tight grove into the outside of the locking wheel nut then just turn off as normal if it slips, try again or try a smaller socket. There is a Utube on this.

good luck

My (apparently genuine) lock nuts were an internal multispline type which seemed so common, there doesn't seem much point having a locking wheel nut as they are all "keyed alike!" Find another FFRR owner and ask if you could borrow theirs.

I wouldn't bother replacing them with another set of locknuts, and just buy normal wheel nuts instead, and thank the heavens above the next time you get a puncture somewhere inconvenient.

Who's heard of alloy wheels being stolen anymore? I have jacked mine up without unlocking it, and yes it does set the alarm off as they are fitted with tilt sensors.

On the same note. I had a jaguar with a lost nut key. One with pins in random places (the nut has slots to match in random places). To get it off all you needed was a nut with one pin (cut all the others off) and that of course would undo any combinations of pins/slots!!!!

All these lock nuts do is prevent the owner, if thieves want your wheels, locknuts wont stop them if they have come armed with a jack and bricks, they will have also sorted a universal "key"

Best wishes
Glen

In Australia we don't have range rover wheel thieves so I removed all lock nuts and replaced them with non locking ones to be safe knowing I can get them off when I need to .

If you go into the main dealer take id and log book unless you know them they will usually give you one of their spares and order a new one in for themselves or worst case slacken them off for you
Then ditch them Thumbs Up

Have you checked all the cubby holes in the boot and looked under the spare wheel?
Wouldn’t be the first time, that it turned up in the car when assumed lost ... 4.2 SC - sold , now bought back
