Not saying that this is what everyone should do but when I buy a replacement car I always have a full service done replace all fluids not just oils new discs and pads have the interior of the car deep cleaned and also have all the bushes replaced and tyres if they are under 4mm - I usually buy them with 70ish k miles and tend to keep them so it is an investment for my enjoyment I usually buy privately and then rectify what is wrong - my current one needed new FBH and replacement peltier for drivers heated seats so you have to spend a little to get the vehicle where you want it to be - enjoy the vehicle and also you know what you have done so it won't need it again in hurry

Sandyt - you sound like a perfect person to buy a car from! It does make you think that buying a properly looked after vehicle from a forum member is the way to go - not always possible I know.
Sausage Creature - I guess your decision is a trade off between winning the fight versus the hassle that it would continue to bring. If it were me, I'd name and shame the muppet dealer as much as possible on social media, get the car perfect and enjoy being the better man.

Finally, fixing all these problems WILL make you fall in love with the car even more. Nothing better than a car you've worked on and "put right" yourself.

A lot of car dealers are a complete waste of time and will just fob you off until whatever warantee they have given you expires.

I always try to buy privately or from an enthusiast as people (including me) are generally reluctant to have somebody around at their house then rip them off.

Cars end up at a traders for a reason , generally people get to a point where the repair list gets too much, trade them in and then they just get passed on to traders who stick a few quid on and get rid.

I'd just carry on if i was you as the repair list you have is relatively small (cost wise) plus you've already done all the preventative maintenance that you'd probably have to do again if you bought another.

If it's any consolation, I've been done over twice by car dealers and one was a main dealer!

@beancounter - My one was from a forum member and I bought it sight unseen and even transferred the money to him before it was delivered. has been 7 very happy years!

Such a common story, I also had problems when I bought my first FFRR, had it back three times only to get the work done myself.

Sounds like behaviours are consistent ... never ignore the alarm bells, or grovel to people taking your money

For what its worth the term one former keeper normally means its had 2 owners - the original owner plus the one on the V5 when you bought it. Its a hangover from the way the V5 documents previous owners. If you have a copy of the V5 that the dealer had when it was transferred to you it will have the name of the owner who the dealer got it from and then state - 1 previous keeper. Current Fleet:-

I’d keep it. It’s actually a good car, looks fantastic, and will continue to be a pleasure to cruise around in after the finance is cleared.

I would not buy from them again and I’d tell everyone to avoid them. And never trust a salesman again.

Doing the homework and weighing up the pros and cons for your circumstances usually tips the balance in the right direction. Gut instinct should never be overlooked either... a ranting seller? Aye right... leave it with you mate

Well, nearly two years later the Financial Ombudsman have come to a decision. "I win" I took this dispute to the finance company, then the FoS.

By phone, I then rejected the FoS decision made earlier this year, because they omitted to consider information that I had previously sent to them. They said to me "If you had sent us that information we would have considered it, and awarded against it".

I replied "I have just re-sent you the email I sent to you several months back that includes all the information you claim to have not received".

The FoS Investigator, then said "Ive made my decision".

This is when I rejected and escalated to an actual Ombudsman.

A long time later. four figures ££££ ordered to be given back to me.

Time to slate that twit at AMS https://www.asmuk.co.uk on trust pilot and so forth. Once I've got the cash.

Perfect job and outcome.

I have been had like this, even working at dealerships as a master tech and service manage didn’t save me from the unscrupulous dealerships out there... they count on you falling for the car and being over the hunt plus not having the will, time or money to do anything about it.

Naming and shaming and being a vocal in their face pain goes someway to feeling better the trump it all with SCC or ombudsmen to take up more time and hopefully hit them in the pocket.

Financially and reputation is a perfect outcome, well done!!
