United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Tonga Green

The only reason I quote ebay prices is that it's the easiest way of seeing what they "actually" sell for.

I'm sure you'll agree, that people can advertise their car for whatever they want on Pistonheads / Autotrader but that's not necessarily what it's worth. After all, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

With eBay, that is driven purely by what the "market" is willing to pay. I sold my already converted 53 Vogue for 10K and bought my facelifted non-LPG'd Autobiography (a real one) for less than 1K more.

So I don't see how an "Autobiography Edition" Vogue is going to sell for 14K. I would have thought realistically ask for 12,500 and be Very grateful if you get 12,000 for it.

Parkers lists:
Independent Dealer £12,390
Private Good £11,470
Private Poor £9,265
Part Exchange £9,890

Wisebuyers lists:
Private Good: £12,610
Private Average: £10,890
Private Poor: £9,480
Part Exchange: £11,750
Trade: £11,102

So like I said, 12,000 on a good day...

Gaz, I know many people (so many it's shocking) that will only buy from a trader and would never contemplate buying privately. They will quite happily pay an extra 10-15% on top of a good private price for that piece of mind.

Dan, agree with all you said above apart from the fact that the majority of cars sold by traders (the majority of cars) are sold via Autotrader & Pistonheads at prices in excess of the Ebay "Sold" prices simply because eBay only actually sells cars that are harder to get rid of than the other two and attracts the majority of related bargain hunters.

If a good car properly priced car is advertised on Autotrader/Piston Heads it will be sold long before any eBay buyer has even considered making a silly offer or even buying at auction due to the longer sale time associated with eBay auctions/classifieds and the bargain factor.

Basically a good car advertised on all three will never ever get into the eBay sold statistics and therefore your basic theory on market values based on eBay is failed.

I am not just saying this its pretty much a proven fact talk to any dealer.

Gaz

2003 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Java Black

I've been offered more than the parkers figures to trade it in!!!!

And if it's so overpriced then I can't figure why I've had 6 emails and one coming to view on Sunday despite only being listed one day!

I've always priced my cars using the Autotrader and pistonheads. Taking an average price from both. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

4.4 V8 Autobiography and 22" wheels **Gone**

Gaz, I would disagree that only the dogs find their way onto eBay...

But any how, I'm sure we can agree to disagree on this one.

Suggestion:

"For sale" section for people selling stuff ? Whistle

Maybe if they want to be flamed, they can ask what it's worth in the "General" section ? Laughing

Dan,

You did not read my post mate!!!

I SAID :

I did not say that good cars don't get advertised on eBay only that they rarely actually sell on eBay as they go via Autotrader/Pistonheads first leaving mostly "Lesser Cars" that actually sell "Eventually" on eBay....
Very Happy

I agree, I feel bad now cos I've ruined this guys post. Maybe M could delete all the stuff after his 1st post.

Except I would still like to know what makes this an "Autobiography Edition"

Except then nothing would make sense in context.

Thanks M for splitting.

I have seen this developing and to be honest I do not think that it is right, or fair to pull apart or devalue and discuss the selling price of other people's vehicles on an open forum.

Whoever is advertising is entitled to ask whatever price they want - if the price is too high the vehicle won't sell and the price would have to be reduced accordingly = lesson learned.

Having a go at forum members and trying to rightly or wrongly mark down the value of their car isn't on - if you want to do this it should be done in private.

This has happened before and all it will do is significantly discourage people from listing vehicles for sale on the forum
