Crit Aire / Certifcate Air Necessary for Driving in France

Drove to the Alps and back last week and didn't really know about this until I was either on the ferry or at the first (of many) petrol stops.

Having searched the forum there wasn't much dedicated information, some helpful bits are mentioned a few threads into the posts so I thought I'd write up my findings in case anyone finds themselves in the situation can benefit from an easily searchable post! Very Happy

Crit Aire certificate is required to drive into certain cities such as Paris, Reims, the Alps and certain other areas - the list is frequently expanding.

It costs about €6 by the time you include the postage and saves ~€150 fine and can easily be ordered online.

https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/en/

If you like me find yourself in France and worried you can apply for it online and use the invoice that they email you as proof of the application to prevent yourself getting a fine ( a call to them verified this for me). I did not get the invoice on an email so I just called again and they resent it, they seemed pretty relaxed and helpful about the whole thing Thumbs Up

At the telephone they said it would take a month to get to me (being UK based) but I set the delivery address as the apartment we were staying in - ordered on the Thursday and arrived at the apartment on the Thursday after (in the remote Alp resort of La Rosiere no Less!!)

Really straightforward and simple for driving in France, just ordering it can remove the stress and worry that you might face a fine! Thumbs Up

Ahh Thank you Stan - I didn't see that post when I searched - or maybe just skimmed over it because it said diesel!

Thumbs Up

Seems the most pointless thing to impose on visitors...... but it’s was easy to get and cheap if you use the official website. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It does, but then it is cheap and easy to avoid the fine so there isn't really a sting
