So...

I little about me. Keen car DIY'er, have a L322 2004 4.4 V8 Vogue on LPG with 145k miles on it. We do 15-20k a miles in the car and have done for the last 3 years or so. I've also got a BMW Z4M roadster, as well as an Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1600 from 1973 and a few classic Vespa and BMW motorbikes.... I like my old things...

Anyway, to the matter at hand:

As much as I love the car, it's starting to bring up some electrical gremlins. For some reason, I can deal with mechanical quirks, but electrical gremlins me off something rotten - mechanicals can be fixed, electricals I try to ignore but these are now getting to me.

None are terminal (at this stage), but one is particularly annoying...

This all started when I changed a coil 2 years ago. It's a pretty simple operation as everyone knows, and I was sure to disconnect the battery etc.

Anyway, on recommission the car developed an annoying issue of if I put the key in, turned to ignition, removed the key, reinserted, turned to ignition the following happens:

1. The Temperature reading would swap from Celsius to Fahrenheit (and Fahrenheit to Celsius the next time). I'm getting the hang of Fahrenheit as a result, but it's really really annoying.

2. It would reset its trip computer. I am also unable to reset the trip by pressing the stalk (ie, I press it and it does nothing). It's not good for my OCD nature of recording how far I get on each LPG tank.

So far I have replaced the battery and run a plug in diagnostic (Icarsoft I930) but other than a MAF issue and various other codes as a result of the previous weak battery, I can't see an issue.

I'm not scared to throw money at a new ECU if that's what it needs, but I just want it to work!

Have you had the dashboard/instrument panel out -I would have thought it will be a loose or corroded connection somewhere.

I'd check the connections there on the back of the instrument panel and the back of the screen - also check the electrical boxes under the seats aren't damp or have corroded connections - sorry can't remember which box is where which controls what, but someone will be along in a bit who will know. Also check the rear electrical cubby hole on the left side of the boot isn't full of water and check those connections too - just for peace of mind.
