There's an interesting point in that article about BMW needing to sell the V8 to another manufacturer to achieve the volumes needed to make it worthwhile developing and manufacturing. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

And just in case McLaren option causes anguish don’t forget that Ricardo who supply the McLaren V8 are a development partner with LandRover , Jaguar for Diesel engines and 4x4 systems. They supply McLaren with 5000 engines already so they could always use the volume and cost efficiency. And they would be British. ( not that that is always an advantage) |

The Mclaren V8 would have to change substantially to be used in a Range Rover. Its bore stroke ratio is too high and it also has a single plane crank.

You would be surprised what kind of engine you can put behind a 9 speed transmission. I also think that McLaren Range Rover has a nice ring to it. And then to get clever we could do a super hybrid and call it an R1. Carbon fiber body panels and magnetic suspension, 1,000,000 pounds, limited to 100 units, sold only to peasant shooters with two last names and a trophy wife and middle eastern gentlemen with more than 12 wives who aren’t currently negotiating their return to freedom. And solves your Ricardo limited production capacity concerns.

No problem thinking laterally, just a problem going laterally without thinking. |

Usually too much right foot or cold weather in my lateral directions. Incidentally from what I know of the new 5.2 supercharged Ford engine its also flat plane so may take it out of consideration. Humble apologies about the Bentley comment, didn’t notice the name of the town you lived in. |

Flat plane V8's sound horrible in everything apart from a sports car. |
