I have seen a few posts on other forums about insurers not covering car fires caused by electrical faults. Is this normal or just one or two companies. I would be shocked if this was the norm.

Never heard of anything like it; it sounds like others may be starting unhelpful rumours after recent events.

Best go back to where you’ve read it it and start challenging for evidence to support their claims.

Thanks that is sound advice, I checked my own small print and mechanical failure is not covered not surprisingly. I guess it would be a discussion to be had with the underwriter at the time of a claim.
