Sounds like a plan.

At least if he repairs your original then it won't need to be coded to the car.

If it's successful, you'll have to share the name of the place.

Do they repair FBH's?

Hi

What is a FBH? I will ask on Friday if he repairs them.

When I was gaining access to the BCM on my car I did find a crushed water bottle jammed under the seat, so it may well be water damaged.

I am looking forward to getting it fixed, even if it means driving 50 miles with no power steering, most of it at speed on the A1 so it should not be too much of a chew. Maybe I won't need to go to the gym for a while!

Ken

Try turning the heat on "roast". Maybe the heat will give enough circuit board expansion for a temporary connection.

Hi All

Due to bad weather forecast tomorrow we brought forward our trip to today.

I was worried about driving with no power steering, but as most of the journey was on the A1 it was quite easy until the roundabouts came.

We got into Harrogate and Merv plugged in and confirmed it was the BCM, faults also logged with the servotronic. He swapped our unit out for a loan unit with the basic program, we had power steering back and full central locking for the rest of our trip.

We called back in on the way back and our own BCM had been repaired and tested and all is good, power steering back and central locking on the back doors. The only thing I had to do was sync the keys in again.

A very knowledgeable guy, he is an electronics engineer that works on cars, its mainly BMWs and Mercedes he works on, but doing quite a few L322's as these are very closely related to the X5. He also repairs the LCM on a fixed cost basis.

So far I cannot get the car to fault! Its cost me £70 and it is covered by warranty for 2 years, a saving of over £200 against a new one!

Not a bad day at all!

Ken

Happy motoring again (except for the cost of fuel)!

A while ago I was thrown out off an Audi forum for mentioning a business that had given me great service, the moderator regarded it as SPAM. This place has really helped me so far, so I am a bit cautious as to the etiquette on fullfatrr.

Is it OK to do it by PM?

Yes to pm. I don't think any moderator would ban you for anything short of threatening the queen. Best guess if you make an etiquette error they would say don't do it again.

Hi All

Its still good news, everything working. Very cold yesterday, quite warm today and no issues.

I have read and re-read the rules carefully and as I have no connection to the repair guy in any form, it looks like its OK to share his details.

A great job by Merv, £200 less than a new BCM, well pleased!!

Happy New Year and the best of everything for 2018 and beyond.

Ken
