Hi Folks

Now the cold weather is upon us (some of us at least) I want to start to use the timed heater in the mornings but I know my battery will not last long as I only do short journeys at the moment.

I have the C-Tek charger though and use it overnight sometimes - does anyone know if its ok to enable the timed heater in the mornings while the car is still plugged into the charger.?

Any ideas....

Hiya,

I did on mine last year (before I had the battery changed) just wanted to ensure it was fully charged before the FBH kicked in.

Also did it yesterday ( three nights of -10c ) and two FBH runs without starting the car, just stuck the C tec on and didn't think more about it.


No problems found...

The C-tek is only a trickle charger ( all be it a smart one) so there isn't going to be any big surges when the FBH is on.

Just remember to unplug it before you drive off!!

Yup.
You can run various car electrics with a charger on.
CTEK can push out 10 amps so should be no issue.

Used it the other day and all seemed fine - I must say the car took a while to start, even having been on charge all night, after the FBH cycle - I wonder if my battery is on its way out anyway.

Time maybe to think about a replacement - AGM upgrade time..???? Ash

The MY2010 has an AGM as standard I recall ?

I presume that you let the glow plugs warm up ? its more likely they are getting worn rather than a battery issue when any derv is slow to start

Thanks Rambles - I wonder if the 2010 MY was a change over year - Mine has a standard battery not AGM (but it could have been changed at any time by previous owner I guess)

I assume mine is totally fine with AGM in that case.

bamboo - No chance for me to let the plugs warm as its push start and electronic sequence - In the cold I get a "Please wait, cold start in progress" (or similar) on the dash - I assume the car waits as long as it thinks it needs before firing up.

on the battery front, ECP have an offer on at the moment (30% I think)

Is this what I should be looking at or is there a higher cold crank variety that would suit better.?[/url] Ash

I was discussing batteries with my local independent recently and the 2010-12 really should have an AGM battery fitted, apparently.
