Auxiliary heater

I am confused with the auxiliary heater on my 4.4td Range Rover, the other day I set it to come on at a time which I set in the menu (timed climate) on the display screen, I could clearly hear the heater running at the time I set but it didn't heat the car or engine at all, so I tried it again with same result but noticed it only ran for about 7 minutes, tried it again and all it done was set off the car alarm, I can't turn the heater on manually from the display screen like it says in book, one other thing my car didn't come with the remote fob for the heater and was wondering if it was fitted to all range rovers but only works if ordered when buying the car new.

Has any body had the same problem?
any replies much appreciated.

you depleted the battery, start the car and listen for the clicking sound coming from the back of the car, faint at first then louder and wit increased frequency. set climate controls like in the picture : blower on auto and the front facing vents ON. in 2~3 min. you should feel warmer air coming out. so next time you set the timed heating leave climate control with front facing vents on.

hope it helps, Thumbs Up

Had a similar problem - but with remote. Sorting a CTEK to keep battery topped up ...

Should I leave the heater settings as Nino has shown when I park up at night and turn her off? So that the car warms up once FBH kicks in? First time with one of these and I feel a long winter coming.....

Many thanks for your reply, have started engine and after 3mins like you said warmer air comes out of the face vents, although couldn't hear any clicking noises coming from back of car just a quite loud humming noise from near the the battery compartment have set timer for later on today and will see what happens, I checked the voltage on the battery and it is reading 11.89 volts which probably doesn't help, I don't understand why It isn't possible to switch on the FBH manually from the display screen.
Again many thanks for your photo etc.

To jump in here ...

Can you set the temp higher than you've shown?

And does it matter if the recirculation is set to auto? What do I put here then?

Westy,
if the battery is reading 11.9V you need new battery (is it the original battery?). when you set timer for the FBH it will only start and run if there is sufficient battery power. if the voltage drops below predetermined level heater will stop or will not start at all.

Gac23, this is what works on my car, if I leave everything on auto, car barely warms up. you can set temp. wheel on any temp. setting but it will not speed heating of the car interior. it will get hotter later Smile .

Thanks, will give it a go.

My FBH works. But doesn't give me the 'toasty' car others talk of.

Maybe this will Smile What do I put here then?

Haven't checked battery before as car has always started first time, pretty sure it is the original battery, I only use this car at weekends, so isn't used that regular.

On the 17 minute cycle it won’t make the interior toastie

I have mine set so the windscreen is clear when I get in.
Not bothered about front vents

That could be my ‘problem’ then Smile

From what I’d read, I expected a toasty cabin.

It’s certainly warmer than if I don’t run the fbh - and windscreen defrosted.

So guess all is well.

Thanks. What do I put here then?

For me getting 'toasty' is all about setting the timer to perfectly align with the time you jump in the car.

If it runs for 20 mins then you hop in just at the end ( I think it's a non-negotiable 20min) I've actually been too hot.

Don't forget it won't run if the battery's low or the fuels's low.

Greg Cheers, Greg

Last night set the FBH timer for AM 7:30, this morning heater started right on time, fuell pump clicking turbine spinning OK, run for full 20 min. and stop. outside temperature -4C inside 6C after heater run. so not very 'toasty'. can somebody else do the same thing- mesure temp outside and inside after heater run. would be nice to compare Smile

I haven’t measured it.

But would say that describes how effective my FBH is too. What do I put here then?

Have got my local Range Rover specialist to have a look, and have been told there has been a technical bulletin issued by Land Rover regarding the FBH and needed a software update which they have done, it is now working fine.
