Anyone know of a way to check if the heated (front) screen is working? Had my screen changed and not convinced the heated elements are working. I'm sure it cleared frost in a matter of seconds last winter

Job was done by National Windscreens, absolutely useless company, had other problems as well and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Wish I'd left it with the cracked corner

put cling film on the screen and try .... ... - .- -.

Thanks Stan, I'm not sure how that would work, but can plainly see it's only clearing from the blower at the bottom of screen while the rear screen clears quicker, without any added air.

I'll check fuse tomorrow but unlikely as the dash lights including heated front screen and defrost mode are lit up.

Get up early, pretty sure most places are forecast a frost overnight, mine is lightly covered now.

or

boil the kettle then place it in the car for a few minutes, all the windows should mist over pretty quick as the warm air hits the cold windows, turn on the heated window and you should see the lines appear and the screen clear. Current

Yh thanks mate, went out there few minutes ago, it's frozen but no lines vertical clearing as there are (horizontal) from rear screen.

No doubt they'll (again) deny it's anything to do with them

I had a P38 screen replaced once, before I realised what he was doing he put a socket on the earth stud below the screen without a spanner on the locknut and broke the stud off. He said “those are always weak”.

OOOO had ours done Tuesday by Autoglass, guys seemed decent enough and Pilkington glass was fitted, and am about to start it up in the frost....

Rats! in the time it took to pour a coffee the sun beat me to it!!

You can feel the screen get warm with your hand.

When my screen was replacd, they used the wrong connector so only the wiper area got warm - I got autoglass back out and they fixed it, but the guy tested by putting his hand on the glass - nothing more sophisticated than that.

Guys from National Windscreens had a look and suggested all connected up ok. Problem is, it still doesn’t heat up. Theyve said ‘it just takes a long time and doesn’t get very warm’. The connections are in the drivers front A post and is just regular type clips, no studs and bolts etc.

Maybe the screen is a bit duff. Certainly not Pilkington's

Apologies Lee, I missed your question. The P38 had a stud welded to the outside of the body on the centreline of the car, immediately below the windscreen. Remove the trim below the windscreen and it should be obvious. Two leads came off the windscreen and both bolted to the stud. After the stud was sheared off the earths were self tapped to the body which I wasn’t overly happy with as the screen pulls a reasoable current.
Anyway, if the positive connections you found are getting power when switched then look or test for a good earth connection for the screen elements.

Got them to change screen, as not heating up as previous (original) screen. Hasn't been cold enough yet to check if any better. Not going to hold my breath on it tho. They again used a NordGlass.
