Water leak above dashboard

When - and only when - I park facing downhill and it rains ...

... I get water coming in at the top of the windscreen behind the headliner

- only on the driver’s side as far as I can tell.

Not gushing but lots of drops which spatter the dash.

Sunroof drains pressure tested by stealer - all ok they say.

Any ideas please? What do I put here then?

Maybe the windscreen needs resealing

Funny you should suggest that.

The heated screen had a biggish missing section in the driver’s side.

Wonder if that’s the same problem? What do I put here then?

I had exactly the same issue. Heavy rain and you could see traces of water drops on the inside of the screen on the drivers side just right of the interior mirror. I replaced the top windscreen weather strip, if you require the part number let me know. I removed old strip and cleaned out the recess and run a bead of high quality sealant in the gap and replaced with the new weather strip, no more leaks. Give this a try. Also is your screen an original Land Rover Pilkington? There are horror stories of poor windscreen fitters.

Sounds similar. Thank you.

Windscreen is genuine LR. But whether it’s original or a badly fitted replacement I don’t know.

I can see the water dripping off the front of the headliner, rather than down the windscreen.

Rain doesn’t have to be that heavy either.

But the car has to be parked with its nose pointing downhill - however slight the downhill is What do I put here then?

Sounds like it's gravity as your FFRR is pointing down hill causing the droplets to run forward right onto the front upper weather strip. I sound like the same issue I had. Remove the weather strip and check the condition. Clean out the recess fully right across the full length of the screen and run a bead of quality sealant end to end and refit the strip. If the weather srtip is in poor condtion then it may be worth buying a new one, think I paid about £30 inc VAT. I've had no issues since.
Funny you should say about the issue with your FFRR parked nose down, if you get a minute read my thread I posted tonight about my ongoing rear water leak, finally sorted it.
I wish you all the luck, it's all trail & error with these water issues, but you will cure it.
regards.
Mark.

Thank you very much.

I’m seeing an independent RR speciaist next week - John Dennis in Aylesbury - will ask him to take a look.

Glad you got your leak sorted. What do I put here then?

Visual check of front weather strip and it looks fine.

As only a small amount of rain is enough to cause the issue,
I don’t think it’s the windscreen.

But I could, of course, be wrong.

Is there anything at the rear which could be causing this?

Going to park pointing down and pour some water over top of windscreen to make sure it’s not that. What do I put here then?

Your be surprised how easily water will ingress! Before I replaced my weather strip and re-sealed the screen I went for a quick fix, well what I thought was a quick fix. I bought a tube of clear windscreen silicone from Halfords and run a bead from end to end & the screen still leaked. It;s surprising how quick the water gets in. Your best option would be to remove the weather strip & clean out the whole channel and re-seal with high quality sealant. I'm sure this will cure the issue as it did in mine. I replaced the weather strip as when it was removed it was found to be in a poor condition. As far as I'm aware the weather strip is only cosmetic and does not act as a full seal, it's the actual screen bonding that makes it water tight. If i'm incorrect I'm sure another member will be able to correct me.

cosmetic and acoustic (wind). the dealer "pressure" testing is wrong. it can easily disconnect the pipe from the fitting and you have big problem. park the car in position that produces leak, open sunroof and pour water down two holes in each corner. this will tell you if the drain pipes are blocked, if not do the silicon.

Pouring water over the weather strip will - I hope - show if this is the problem.

Will try it. Thank you again. What do I put here then?

Sorry ... I wasn’t clear enough. By pressure test I meant they’d used a jet wash lance to spray the sunroof.

No leak was then found in cabin. So they reckon drains are ok.

But will try your suggestion too. Let’s be honest, stealers can be cr*p. What do I put here then?
