Electronic parking brake fault

Hi all

I have searched and am hoping to find further info, my 2011 fattie electronic parking brake module is faulty, code 3000 on the diagnostic, with amber warning light on. Can reset the amber warning fault with my diagnostic reader, but the red handbrake warning light (triangle) keeps flashing, its driving me nuts.

Battery "reset" makes no difference..

Pulling on the handbrake switch simply reinstates the amber fault signal, no noise or movement from the EPB.

Has anyone managed to remove the module without removal of the subframe, is it at all possible??

Many thanks..

Dolph34 please do ask, it would really help me a lot, from what i have seen its not necessary to completely remove the subframe, but it does need to drop a max of 40mm which will allow one to get to the module for removal, still not a simple task for a DIY project, I think..

Thank you..

I know when i had my problem there was an option on the iid tool to reset / rehook the module. Might be worth a try. 2015 4.4 AB

Nope, my diagnostic unit can reset the amber warning light, but the red flashing light with the message PARK BRAKE OFF does not reflect as a Diagnostic error. I have attached a pic showing the message, the date is wrong on the screen as i had performed a battery reset and have not bothered updating date and time just yet..

If I understand well, and also a problem on LR3 & 4's, sometimes the brass rod inside the PB Module jams at the end of its travel. Seems like this is what is happening to mine, and since the emergency release cable has been pulled, the handbrake cables inside the module are no longer "re-attaching" themselves to the sliding mechanism.

When I run a live data test on the module, if I pull on the parking brake switch, you can see the parking brake motor current increase from 0 to about 2.5 amps and then the system immediately shuts down. This probably takes about 1/10th of a second, so it is clear to me that the motor is jammed. (there is no motor rotational noise to be heard)

For what I have read on the technical manual, the entire exhaust need to be removed, which is really no biggie, subframe needs to be loosened and then dropped a max of 50mm in order to get to the module. The module has 2 bolts securing it to the top of the subframe, and the bolts run downwards, so there is no space between the body and bolt head to get a torqx driver in there to loosen without dropping the subframe.... Censored Censored

I have spent some time under the fattie, and honestly I cannot find a way around this issue, its just too damn tight in there..

Luckily I have all the tools I need, and I can fabricate on my lathe or mill if necessary, I need to purchase another set of stands as I only have 2 of the correct caliber, and I want to work with all 4 wheels off the ground, might as well do my front airbags while I am there..

I'll be leaving SA with my boys to visit my family in Italy on the 1st December, so time is not on my side, end of year business is hectic.., so at best I will put up with the annoying red flash and work on the fattie when I'm back, I really neither have the time or desire to rush this little project.

Might just take a few photos along the way, including opening the module (if I get that far) and post up as a reference, there really is very little available on the web on the Fattie in this regard.., plenty on the D3,4 & RRS, and while operationally similair, there are differences in mounting..

Right so I received a PM from member pk7976 last night given a similar fault to mine, and while I did reply to the PM it seems to be hanging in the outbox instead of the sent folder, so I am hoping that pk can pick up this feeback here..

I did not realise that I had not added to this thread, apologies int his regard, but I did find the fault to be the motor in the module having burnt itself, not the electronics, just the motor, and it was not clearly visibile until I had physically opened the motor itself.

I had created a thread in this regard in our local forum 4x4cimmunity.co.za, here is the link with plenty photos and maybe a little too much detail drama, but hey the result worked and still does, so here it is to share.. yes there is a lot of pre-amble but it was all being discussed real time so it was quite literally a live puzzle at the time, good thing is that a proper solution was found if you are the handy fixit type..
