2018 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Santorini Black

I’ve moved from an SDV8 to an SVA. I’m sure it will be fun but not sure it’ll be sensible in the long run.

The SDV8 really isn’t very refined for modern day standards and I’ve had two vehicles with it in now.

After 24 hours using a 2.0 Ingenium diesel in a Disco Sport, the SDV8 seems pretty refined from where I'm sitting! Laughing

Apparently the 4 cyl ingenium is much quieter in the Discovery, but I agree, 4 cylinders are just no where near as nice as 6 or 8. It's not just sound volume, it's sound quality and vibration.

And while we’re about it, this 2.0 Diesel happens to be the 240 bhp version and it’s a superb example of why 240 bhp from a 2.0 Diesel makes it darn near undriveable! If it had a manual, I’d be rowing it along with the gear lever and trying to make smooth progress is darn near impossible Shocked

If anyone here ever rode a 350LC, you’ll understand Wink

My hybrid order is imminent. Just doing final spec. Course its a risk never having seen or driven one - but I'm reducing my exposure to dirty diesel as fast as I can. When the hybrids start to become available second hand - and presuming they're not turkeys - I think the diesel market will take a hit. Who would buy a second hand diesel when its clear that government policy is to send them the way of cigarette smoking?

Hybrid technology isn't new and JLR need to get this right. Time will tell. Current:

I'm now starting to think the smaller boot on the PHEV is a dealbreaker for me. I have to see one to understand if it makes putting guns/dogs/kit in the back for shooting impractical.

it wouldbe nice ti know the following abiut phev in order to make a choice.

0-60 electric only...no use if its less than a normal rate.

battery life stationary with radio,lights,aircon,seat heaters. more than three quarters of my commute is stationary.

top speed..is that constant or with electric assist...if with elec then it must have a finite time limit.

cabin db. elec and motor.

battery has 8 years 70% is this graded...i mean if after day 2 it loses 70% they dont need to change it?

city driving on motor only mpg

this would help me choose...what else would you like to know? it is better to have and not need then need and not have

You could always just saw the barrel off the shotgun..... Current:

The drawback of a PHEV is of course that when the voltage of the Li-ion battery is low, you only use the petrol engine. Let's hope that Pete at BAS or other remap experts can tune the 2.0 Ingenium engine similar to how Volvo/Polestar optionally can do with their 2.0 300hp engine - Polestar can deliver the Volvo T8 with even more torque and hp.
Btw: noise in the P400e should be acceptable, both in EV and petrol mode.

My 2018 Autobiography is on order, and for the first time (this will be my 14th!) I have gone for the hybrid.
Lots of ins/outs, but ultimately, diesel is now the devils fuel, and things are moving on.
Disappointingly it means an extra couple of months wait for delivery
Wish me luck!

Great Badger Thumbs Up What config did you end up with? AB with Exec rear seats? Tow bar option?

I've pulled out of the pre-order list that I signed on to with our local LR dealer Sad The main reason was lack of clarity of the specs on the Norwegian PHEV version. So we'll live with our L322 07 TDV8 yet some time before taking the plunge Smile

for a FF I wouldn't consider a hybrid - not yet anyway.

I also wouldn't buy a new diesel - it won't be long before they become a less desirable ownership option, with increased taxes etc - but more importantly for me I like to use my RR for short trips to the shops etc, which doesn't suit a diesel, but my SC doesn't complain Smile

On electric cars - the upcoming Porsche Mission E looks the business

AB in Carpathian Grey with black pack and black 21" wheels
No exec rear seats, although they have reconfigured the middle seat smaller to make the outer ones bigger and the back of the middle folds down into almost a centre-console arrangement.
No tow bar (I have an L200 for the scruffy stuff)
Meridien signature hi fi
HUD
Ebony/Ivory interior
Domestic plug socket (essential for the coffee machine at the shoot!)
Bits n bobs
Can't wait!

I’ve just ordered a Vogue SE phev as my company daily to replace my current Bmw. My first RR, always wanted one and the phev option now makes the BiK work. Will be interesting to see how it stacks up. Been quoted a mid June delivery.

Will be interesting to see how it works out as a daily. Most days is a 45 mile each way commute, mixed urban and rural with 20 miles of m40 in the middle. Will be able to charge overnight and when parked up at work all day, so in theory should be a good solution.

For me and as a daily it’s all about the comfort, road presence and ideally reasonable economy. Performance is not an issue as other options to scratch that itch.
