The point re the Type Approval is correct. However, check your V5. In July I registered my replacement FF and everything was fine except that for some reason the V5 did not have the type inserted. L322 FullFats are type "LM". My V5 had all the other numbers, series etc, but nothing against Type.

It would have been possible to insert that but I didn't want to take the chance of an alteration to the V5 so ended up with a Certificate of Conformity from Paris at a cost of €220

If I had had a typewriter available it might have been a different story.

Some départements don't provide a temporary certificate .

This is contrary to what many simply refer to as nightmare French bureaucracy... (not my experience so far!)

Given the high price differentials of FF and RRS in France why don't more buy from Germany
and re-register..... am I too logical or too simplistic? ----------------------------------------

Just to clarify something, you say you are hoping to buy a FF from the second owner. Is that a Uk registered vehicle or already French registered? John

If you have bi fuel, it must be noted on the v5, if not the whole system has to be checked and all the numbers of the parts used must be certified. So do you homework. Good luck and enjoy France.

There is a Facebook group called 'registering RHD cars in France' that has lots of useful info regarding getting both LHD and RHD cars onto French plates. The group also contains details of authorised garages who will conduct the online process for you for a small fee.
I used one of the authorised garages and it took 3 weeks.
Collecting the required documents however took 7 weeks! Travelling around in circles again.

Stunning to die for countryside- away from the flat landing zones. Not Swiss normandy which is not as pretty just more expensive with the name ‘swiss’
Fantastic French people, just lovely as is the food.
House prices cheap as chips , just huge and stunning granite houses.
Stones throw from the main A84 - so easy connections.
My French house.com has a lot of examples over a lot of france.

Places like St Lo & caen have been rebuilt as 95% flattened in ww2 and are unlikely to appeal, but not all of Normandy was destroyed.

Parts of Brittany, E.g. Quimper, seem quite posh to me & the architecture is different. One mans meat....

After 9 weeks of holding all my documents the Service d'Immatricualtion Vehicules has rejected my registration on the grounds that the UK V5C does not have the 2 letters 'LM' in the D2 section despite having all the other info' such as EU type approval etc and ALL the subsections of D2 being complete as a result of the computer following the logical path, and that the Controle Technique computer software is capable of following such a path in order to recognize the vehicle...

If 1 complete, then 2..... etc. and yet the "trainee official" can't figure this out and has to have a fully printed paper version that I can't send via snail mail but have to, wait for it........

Receive electronically,
Print Out,
Complete with 'black pen',
Scan into computer (less than 4Mb)
Send via email to a "no-reply" address,
and then wait some more...

In order to continue this registration I now need to send off to LR France for a CoC that does actually show the 2 letters 'LM'. inc all the above stuff, there is a direct bank transfer required, no other method of payment accepted

At a cost of 120Euros per letter, ie 240 Euros for the blasted document before I am then allowed to pay 500 Euros plus for the Certificate d'Immatriculation.

and then they wonder why there are so many old banger UK registered vehicles rolling around with no CT, no Insurance and no hope.

I even sent them a copy of "EU Directive 1999/37/EC," in French which explains the harmonization of the procedure throughout the EU!

Still 240Euros 1 time CoC vs £598 annual road tax is worth it.

Well, just received the Attestation d'identification for the L322 from Jaguar Landrover France so hopefully I will now be able to get the thing registered.

Booked the 4 poster ramp tomorrow to perform a gearbox service, oil/mecatronic and shudder fix so hopefully will find time to fire up the ANTS program.

Well 'finally' received the new French Carte de Grise today for the L322 3.6 TDV8. (only took 4 months!).

But I'm relieved that it has all been sorted whilst we still are able to do so.
