Headlights

Hi All
My 2005 RR was suffering from the headlight flickering problem, so I bought a set of cheap ebay Xenons for £12
This promptly stopped the left headlight from working at all, so I guessed the load of new bulbs ad finished off the next guess of failure, the ballast.

Thinking this would be a pain in the RSE to change and expensive, I put in part number 307 392 074 into ebay instead of the YWC Landrover part number, and this came up with a pile of brand new shiny ones for £38, rather than second hand ones for £60 upwards.
Anyway I was pleasantly surprised by removing the air duct (2x 8mm self tappers) the ballast is easily accessed. A mirror helps spot the torx self tappers and it just pulls out as connections are on the rear.
New one in. Lights now work

If your were putting it off, for £38 and 10 minutes is well worth if it stays working!
Best wishes
Glen

As a suggestion, how about the forum creates a "parts and faults cured" section (where successfully repaired/replaced!)
Might help with spotting others common repeated problems ahead I could prepare for, possibly a cheaper alternative part and cure.
If something keeps cropping up for others, I might look at getting a spare, particularly these days when a minor fault stops a modern car in its tracks. (or I only have 1 headlight working for a week!)
And I am sure many subjects are repeated to death. (eg tv tuner!)

Then all you need to type on a post is description, year, LR part, any alternative part or cheap supplier, problem/fault code -

Therefore I could have made a post headlamp ballast, 2005, YWC000500, 307 329 074, Xenon headlamp failure/flickering.

and my others....... (one problem per post)
POV engine breather, 2005, BMW cyclonic, clogged/oil mist
Analogue TV tuner, 2005, XRA5000, AH42-19C063, digital tv upgrade
Suspension Compressor piston ring, 2005, LR N/A, www.bagpipingandy.com, static reservoir pressure (my next job!!)

Best wishes
Glen
PS I am sure it would be a growing long list, but sadly would find it interesting reading.
