Be very very careful. He’ll turn up, want to take it for a test drive and then the explanation for why he can’t pay you now but he’ll send the money when he gives the car to his brother.......... ______________________________

Yes, I thought that too, mate! It doesn't go anywhere without me in it, or with me being satisfied with the payment method. The guy sounds legit, he's not claiming to be a Ghanain prince who will give me a fortune if I pass my bank details - but then again a) he would sound convincing and b) but I'm old enough to be sceptical enough! 😉 L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

In those circumstances I’m afraid a bankers draft or bankers cheque are the only methods I would accept. Too many of my mates have had online payments suddenly run into problems and then never turn up, and that’s after it looked legit enough to release the car.

I'll second Stan. Cash only. Every other payment method is risky. RR History

You could do an in-branch Faster Payments or CHAPS payment too, which would cut out an element of doubt. CHAPS is only available on weekdays and costs £25 usually, but should credit within 2 hours. Faster Payments should credit your account within the same amount of time, although that's available at weekends too. The CHAPS cut off for a same day payment is usually around 2pm, but depends on the sending bank.

We've settled on a price, agreed on cash as payment - let's see what Sunday brings . . . . ! Even more convinced he's genuine because of the questions he asked - how many keys, do the sunroofs leak, what state is the chassis in? He seems to know his Discos! 😉 L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Well, the Disco story has a really happy ending - just waved goodbye to Raymond and his family in the Disco, and feeling slightly guilty about having done this post in the first place. Really nice bloke, lovely family, he's chuffed bits for his brother who will be getting rather a nice Landy - and he's going to get his brother to send me a photo of 'The General' somewhere suitably off-road-ish in Uganda when it gets out there.

Doonhamer, Please tell me where "Domestic Zero " comes from. I love the name, I worked out what you mean but I can't relate the name to anything logical as to where it comes from. |

Glad it all worked out but its not uncommon for them to be sent to Africa I used to have a freight airline and flew between uk nigeria and Ghana and often had discos as part of the freight |
