United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Santorini Black

One week in and no sign of the love affair ending . . . just yet! First mod done - fitted a set of rubber mats, most I saw on-line were carpet over mats but won't with the rubber option, trimmed in the same colour as the interior - well, it'll have to work for a living occasionally! Tomorrow is sidestep fitting day, make it a bit easier for Domestic Zero to climb in and out. What have I discovered so far? Well, I now know how to reset the fuel consumption - and that it's quicker off the mark than my Disco 2! Going back to the dealer later this month for an MoT, will also ask for a new speaker in the driver's door and an aircon re-gas & check. Will keep you all posted . . .

I'm a bit of a dinosaur - it's taken me a long time to get used to the digital age - but once I work out how to get them a) into my camera and b) onto those pages I'll put some up. Wink

Now into week 4 of ownership and so far so good . . . ish! Took the liberty of taking the motor in to my local 4x4 specialist (they've looked after both my Pajeros, my Santa Fe, Grand Vitara and Disco over the past 15 years and I can't fault them service-wise) so that they could give it a once over on their ramps before I sent it back to the dealer. List is now slightly longer than original - track rod end, a couple of anti-roll bar droplinks, couple of bushes, but nothing too drastic - just need the dealer to get back to me. Still haven't got the sidesteps mounted; I'm currently waiting for a day in W. Berks when it doesn't rain!
Forum and Wiki pages have been a) very useful and b) very entertaining, so thanks to all for that. One thing does surprise me a bit is the number of people who are looking to modify or upgrade the looks of their cars. It seems to me that there are two groups of owners - those who do and those who don't, and I reckon I'm firmly in the latter camp. That's not to say that I wouldn't consider making a few minor changes internally, but I have to admit that I love the look of the motor as it is. One of those changes is likely to be getting a different/better radio system, going from AM/FM to digital - guess I'll be looking in the pages of this site for a few hints and tips.

Update on the Range Rover - following on from the used car dealership I bought the car from (run it for a couple weeks, if you're not happy let me know and I'll get it sorted) I left it at a local garage last Wed night to get a list of 'stuff' done. New track rod end, new ARB links, new rear discs, pads & shoes, all done at dealer's expense.
I was reliably informed that I could pick the motor up on Sat a.m so I waved goodbye to the long-haired general and caught the bus to Newbury, en route towards Lambourn. Bit of a delay between buses so I killed time with my phone - good job I did, as I found a message from the garage, sent at 22:20 on Fiday! Basically, don't waste your time coming to collect the car - doing pre-release checks all the windows decided to wind down and we can't get them back up! We'll let you know . . . etc.
Back into the Disco which luckily I haven't sold yet for a couple of days.
Got the call to pick it up on Tues and all was sunshine & roses - until today on the way today to work when 'Air suspension inactive' came up as a warning on the display! A quick visit to my local friendly 4x4 specialist would seem to indicate that the compressor is u/s! Guess who will be getting in touch with the dealer again?

Well, my sortie into the world of Range Rover ownership hasn't been quite as simple as I'd hoped Shocked but after almost 4 years with an aged Disco 2 TD5 I've become immune to the trials and tribulations that come with the green oval badge!

Latest update on the TD6? Picked up by the dealer yesterday, now getting a new air suspension pump fitted and hopefully a fuel injection warning fault sorted out. Considering I've already had the best part of £1000's worth of work done under warranty, on a motor that only cost £5.5k, this latest hiccup will be eating even more into the dealer's profit margins, but hopefully I'll get all the issues sorted out within the next couple of weeks. Just glad that I haven't moved the Disco on yet, or I'd be somewhat wheel-less at the moment.

Oh, and there's also the imminent proceedings in the small claims court to recover the money paid for a set of sidesteps which don't fit Censored - don't know if I'm allowed to mention the company that I bought them from, but I've never encountered such appalling customer service in anything I've ever bought, and I absolutely refuse to be beaten by them!

On the plus side, I LOVE driving the Range Rover, when it lets me do it, and it's definitely the best vehicle I've ever had - or at least it has the potential to be. I'll post an update when I get it back . . . . L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

I love mine. Have had a few moments when I want to get rid of it as it can be very frustrating, especially when LR had it for three weeks this summer to try and fix a fault that they did finally in the end. Still have a knock that no one can trace though.

cheers and enjoy! Alex

The saga continues! Rolling Eyes Range Rover is now into its 4th week away from chez moi; had an air suspension problem sorted, now the limp mode problem is being investigated. I've had the motor for just over 3 months now but it's spent over 4 weeks of that time having various issues sorted under warranty. A frank discussion with the dealer last night now gives him to the end of this week to get the motor back to me, or he keeps it and I walk away with a full refund.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it does work out okay as I still love the RR - but it's a good job that I haven't sold the Disco yet! L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

All I can do is keep my fingers crossed, I suppose. The long-haired general and I are going up to Wigan from Berkshire on Friday night to attend a reunion this weekend. I'm toying with the idea of using the Rangie if it's back in time; Wigan and back would certainly be a good test run for it, but I think I'm more likely to take the Disco - going by recent history, it's less likely to let me down! L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Well, it looks as though my sojourn into the wonderful world of Range Rovers is going to be somewhat shorter than I'd intended Sad ! Another deadline has come and gone; it was going to have been back with me by this Monday at the very latest, it's now Wednesday and I've heard nothing Censored . Think I'll be visiting the dealership tonight, complete with V5 and handbooks and getting used to life with my dependable old TD5 again. I'd still like to upgrade it, but I'll wait until I get things sorted out with the return of this Rangie first. Will it be another one? Hmmm, not sure about that at the moment - there are a couple of nice TD6s for sale locally . . . but there's also a very nice Disco 3! L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Shame, Disco 3's are nice. I had one before this and it went wrong and cost more than the RR to run and maintain.

Good luck Alex

My apologies for turning this into the RR version of a soap opera! Saw dealer tonight for a chat - now had rear brakes, suspension compressor and a fuel pump done under warranty; pointed out that I haven't had the motor for 6 weeks out of the 14 I've owned it for - so he pushed the warranty out a bit further - happy with that!
Motor is being returned tomorrow - Disco should be going on Sunday if all goes well - guess that's me committed now! 😉 L322 TDV8 4.4 - current
