I work in the connected vehicle / IoT sector. I won't plug the company I work for here but I would say that the navigation manufacturers' core business is to make these products; it's their bread and butter, it's what they do all day every day and the end result is generally a very positive user experience especially when you take into account the complex algorithm surrounding historical traffic patterns, live traffic, road closures etc.

You mentioned in another post cable ties.... is the GPS cradle just cable tied into the vent? or are you using a vent type universal mount? Looking at securing my Garmin on the drive south when i pick up my new baby.... 3 weeks and counting! given that Romania had not even thought about motorways in 2012...it may be useful... Series 2a LWB Hardtop - ex British Aerospace that was then used in an armed robbery! not by me!

In addition to the built in unit which does a reasonable if not basic job imho we all have google maps live navigation with live traffic info inbuilt into the mapping on our phones which look like sat navs...

my trusty sat nav - whilst uptodate with the vagaries of revised road planning in Germany and Romania - also holds the way points to my favorite overnight stops in small Bavarian beer houses! Not done the drive for a couple of years - so have a night of catching up in a wonderful small bar in Hungary as well - next to a nursing college... as it happens...
