Yes they have obstruction sensing built in. I'm in London, no problems with kerbs yet - had them on for a few weeks now and they're brilliant. My 10 year old had quite a climb into the back unless I dropped it into access mode but now I'm not using access mode hardly at all. Best gadget ever. Apart from the RR itself of course! Very strong too. Go for it! Cheers, Greg

I have them on my L405 was just getting concerned about parking too close to kerbs.

If they detect obstructions, then those obstructions need to be more significant than your legs......

But in theory they would detect a curb and then not deploy ? |

Well there's no infra red sensor more like an electric window safety cut out. If it's pushing and detects resistance then it will pull back the other way. Not tried this, just read it in the manual. Not had any issues with kerbs either. I park pretty close to kerbs too as a rule. Outer mirror lorry protection - OMLP ! |

...actually just checked mine (L322) against a "London" kerb. The steps don't protrude past the line of the wheels. I'll take a pic, give me a day.

On mine they definitely come out past the wheel I think.

Mine constantly stop working, either one side or the other and often both.

When you lock the car, the steps will retract. So you cannot (or shouldn't) leave the car with the steps out. This is at least how the steps work on a L322. |

They can be left out using access mode - quite useful for accessing the roof box or cleaning (on a L322). |

Thanks.... So if deployed in access mode, will this offer protection against door bashing? Or too low? |

Not tried the access mode then locking but (as mentioned ^^) when you lock it they retract. In a game of vehicle electronic top trumps, I reckon the locking would trump the access setting.

On the subject of door protection, have you see these?
