Gesture Tailgate Disable ?

Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the gesture tailgate - it can be an absolute fecking nuisance.

Last Thursday I was shooting with the syndicate, my spaniel was in the dog box, I am in the boot getting guns ready and loading up cartridge bags - all of a sudden the stupid tailgate goes bonkers - opening and closing like mad - with me almost being chopped in half on several occasions - I am mystified as to what the hell is going on.

It then dawned on me, there were 5 or 6 other dogs milling around the back of all the other cars - especially cars which contained dogs, including mine - the dogs were tripping the sensor to close the tailgate. It's an absolute pain if you are in the boot and the key is in your pocket.

I have checked all the user settings but can't find a way of disabling it - has anyone else had this problem ? The least LR could do is provide a setting to disable it in the user defined settings but I can't find it ???? 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

I totally agree. I have the same experience of dogs setting off the tailgate. I too would welcome a disable option.

There has been a lot of criticism on the lack of a "disable feature" across all JLR products that now have the gesture tailgate.

Pulling the fuse in the rear fusebox also disables the standard electric lift Sad

Valet mode disables all tailgate functions (only useful if you are outside washing the car and have the key on you)

Only current option apart from disconnecting the sensor wiring is to leave the key in the car more than one metre away from the sensors as you would do in normal driving.

What type of sensor is it ?

Can you go low tech and just put a bit of tape over it ?

Blimey - never thought of that - going to have a delve underneath. Thanks :

It would have been nice though if LR had taken the simple option and just put a toggle on/off in the vehicle dash set up - just like the drive away locking. I cannot believe LR can be so stupid not to test these things. For goodness sake a RR is a shooting brake do they expect people not to use it for what the whole concept and essence of the vehicle is about..... do they not think that a RR will be used for what they are designed and have working dogs milling around them. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

You don’t get much more ‘Land Rover’ than a bit of sticky tape providing a vital function Whistle

They’ve just ditched green paint, good luck if you think the designers and marketeers give a stuff about people using them like they used to. Most of them nowadays are ordered for drive-by shooting rather than driven game.

I thought it was only RR Snorts that were involved in such frightful matters Laughing 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Saying that, the dealer should be able to disable it.
