In short, no. Rules are, if the vehicle wasn't manufactured to Canadian or US specs originally, it must be 15+ years old for licensing in Canada and 25+ years for the US. (Canadian & US specs are very similar, so importing a car from one country to the other is usually not a serious problem.)

I was at a a Land Rover picnic last summer and one guy drove up in his BRAND NEW Defender TD5 and caused a stir of interest. (Nice, BTW, ex Germany)

I got an old Disco1 for offroading. I'd have liked a Defender, but the prices are just silly here. If you want a laugh, try pricing a NAS spec 110. The US only got 500 and we only got 25.

I would love to import an EX MOD 110, but I am not brave enough to buy one without being able to inspect it. It seems like the prices on these can be pretty low, and I like the idea of a bare bones vehicle for hunting and off tarmac adventures.

Prices on Defender 90 and 110s that were originally sold in the U.S. are indeed extreme.

I'm sure the drivers take the utmost care when driving them. It is not like they like they are driven off of amphibious craft into the sea.

An old thread , but I’m in socal .

Imagine this :
Young guy speeding daddy’s car in the carpool lane comes across slower traffic .
Looses a little control and leaves the carpool lane hitting the car in the next lane .
Which forces her into my lane hitting me , before heading back through her lane and the carpool lane into the concrete devider before traveling back through all the lanes to land in the slow lane !!
In the meantime , The forces of her hitting my rover send me over 3 lanes of traffic (with steering disabled) onto the shoulder all whilst only briefly hitting the car that was in the lane next to me as she swerved violently into the lane next to her to avoid me ...

4 cars damaged and the whole freeway ground to a halt

Turns out over here the person that initially caused the domino effect is liable for everybody else’s damage .
And he wasn’t insured to drive daddy’s car , so we all get nothing .
Apart from a wrecked Range Rover

I new range rovers were expensive as I’ve owned in the past , but THAT was my most costly commute ever !!
