Is there a "How to...." for gearbox oil/filter on

I have searched and searched, can find it for every other gearbox, but not the 3.6 TDV8 with the 6 speed ZF 'box?

I know on the Mercs the transmission fluid had to be at 80ºc when measuring levels, using either diagnostic or an infa red thermometer on the transmission case itself.

Is there a dipstick on these etc.?

The fluid temperature should be at 40°C when the level is checked.

There’s no dipstick. It’s a combined filler/level plug on the right-hand side of the casing

Only use a genuine IBS Filtran filter/sump pan

It makes sense to replace the mechatronic connector sleeve at the same time as you're replacing the filter if yours still has the old orange seals on it

but be careful not to touch the electrical pins (ESD sensitive)

Be sure to lubricate the selector cable clamp bolt while you’re under there, to ensure that it can rotate in the lever

Is there a good place to buy the kit for the change?

I was thinking that maybe have a flush somewhere, but I would then want to change the filter, many say they don't 'need' to, but to me that seems absurd??

So I guess my thinking is, have the flush, then buy the new sump/filter and maybe 3-4 litres of the fluid to replace any I don't catch when dropping it again.

The chances of finding someone who flushes and does the filter seems slim to none.

Is there not a way to get push the fluid out of the TC?
On my 7 speed Merc I would undo the oil cooler return after changing the 5 litres you can get out that is not in the TC and that would then push out 2 litres of the dirty stuff, you would see it go from dirty and smelly to red again.
Then top up again with 2 litres of new fluid and start to fill and measure.

This would get around 95% of the fluid changed and you would have a new filter and seals etc.



My car is on 128k miles, the thought of leaving the old filter in sounds stupid to me, the thought of leaving 60% of old fluid in there sounds equally stupid. Am I worrying too much though? Porsche 911 (996)

which appears to show the pressurised fluid filler device inserted straight into the torque converter fluid circuit (i.e. the lock-up clutch ‘off’ or ‘release’ port) yet I’ve never seen any other reference showing this method being used, even in ZF’s own guides :

Gizze, I plan on flushing mine next week if I get the time. I was planning on intercepting the cooler connectors by the radiator, ditching the output of the cooler and pumping in new oil back along the line to the box.

I plan on starting it up and running it through each of the gears for a short time and watching till I get clear oil out again. Then checking the levels again.

I'll do a flush first then come back and drop the filter later on. V8 or else ...
