Effort to retrofit RSE to L405

I'm considering changing my L322 for an L405 but several of the cars I'm looking at (including the one's in the classifieds on this forum) don't have the rear screens. We have them on our Discovery and the kids love watching movies, it makes long drives to the alps so much easier.

Can anyone tell me if its possible to retrofit them? Is it easy enough to get parts? Approximate cost?

Thanks!

it would be a pain and expensive to retro fit them..try argos for after market ones or think about a couple of cheap tablets.... ... - .- -.

I’m with Stan here.

I had RSE in one of my L322s. The kids could argue non-stop for a 3 hour journey about what they wanted to watch. Never again.

iPads and headphones are a far, far, far better solution. And will be much cheaper. And will entertain them out of the car. And can be upgraded and replaced.

I am surprised they sell any with RSE anymore.

All the main agents I have spoken to in the last 2 weeks have all said virtually nobody specs cars with RSE anymore, as I was thinking of paying the extra but was advised not to bother - apparently LR do a really nice tablet holder that mounts on the head rests - advice was that nearly everyone that wants RSE prefers iPads for greater versatility and games etc. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

if you defo want dvd players then these are available from argos at the moment, not OE but cheaper than retro fitting and when the kids grow up you can sell these on..

Sounds like retrofitting is out.

Interesting to hear people don't want them any more. My kids take it in turn to chose what movie they're going to watch, there is the odd argument but for a really long journey they really help my wife and I get some peace!

I love the RSE, on swmbo’s Discovery HSE Lux we have the rear usb option too which I have loaded with films so we have less arguments as there is a choice with the dvd playing on one screen and a usb film on the other, the only problem is we have three children and three sets of headphones Big Cry

I would assume that like the D4 the L405 has this same option of a rear usb so the same should apply.

I retrofitted the factory RSE to our old D3 so it can be done but it’s a pain to source the parts and especially the wiring loom Shocked

If you want the factory rear screens in your next car keep searching, they are out there, that’s what I am planning on doing in new year when I start my search for the right L405 Thumbs Up

Each to their own but three iPads would mean no discussion about which two films are watched.

doing a D3 retrofit sounds like a doable job but trying to find the headrests in the correct colour and then the wiring for a newer L405 would probably be very difficult.. ... - .- -.

I have RSE in mine and wouldn't be without it to be honest.

I spent £85 on Amazon for two DVD players that link together and go on the back of the front headrests for my wifes car which has also been great but they look crap in comparison to RSE.

If I replace my RR then I would want RSE again.

Have you compared watching a film on an iPad with one displayed on the tiny screen of the RSE? The picture quality and size is like night and day - RSE can't compete. And when you get to the destination, the fun stops. With an iPad, it doesn't.

However, I recognise that people like these things. To me it is inexplicable but people also like Porsche Cayennes. And beetroot.

I like RSE for simple reasons.
Never runs out of charge
No cables to lose
Doesn't get left on the seat and sat on
Doesn't fall out of the car when stopping for fuel etc.

But yes, technically the IPAD is a better solution in as much as it is more versatile and the image quality is superior.

And no, I don't like beetroot. Dirty.

I have enough trouble putting music on my phone with the pain in ar$e iTunes so I have no desire to try faffing about with movies in the same way. Big Cry Each to their own but I am very happy with the factory RSE system Thumbs Up
