I have a need of a dog cage for the Rangie. I have two golden retrievers.

First some background. The older one is good as gold. He sleeps happily in the boot with a dog bed and dog guard.

The new puppy is a bleeding nightmare. Even on a short 5 min journey, he will find something - anything - to chew. So far, it has been balls, leads, whistles, toggles, and recently the rubber overmat. The thought of a 3 hour drive to Yorkshire and then him sleeping in the car leaves me worried for the interior of the car.

So dog cage time.

We have a transk9 and you're right, after a thermonuclear war the 3 things that will be left are cockroaches, transk9 cages and my crusty shreddies.

It's a well made bit of kit (the cage) and made to fit the vehicle so maximises available space. You can easily remove the cage when not in use although it does take a bit of storing.

Can't comment on the others, but happy to recommend transk9.

I've been chatting to TransK9 and the B26 also fits. It's fractionally bigger.

Lintran DB 10 is a good fit, can get them with draws underneath for bits and bobs

Thought about a muzzle?

I bought a crate yesterday on eBay so a bit late now.

I think he’d manage to get it off but I might look at one.

Are they safe to wear for extended peroiods? Overnight?

Our two dogs are ex racing greyhounds and are used to wearing a basket muzzle. But we don't leave them on when the circumstances don't dictate they should wear them, and I'd not be happy to,leave them on overnight.

Although they can drink while wearing them, they can't eat and would probably be uncomfortable when trying to sleep.

There are times when the dogs will have to sleep in the back of the car. The older one is very happy to do so.

Sounds like a cage is probably the best solution all round. Your dogs will be more content and you'll be safe in the knowledge that the young one isn't going to chew lumps out of your expensive FFRR  2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Another vote for Lintran, we have one in our L322 and it's brilliant. Keeps water spills contained and being white it reflects the light keeping it cooler, a great bit of kit. My labrador sleeps in our car a lot and he's very happy in there.

Never mind all that, how about a few pics of the dogs?

We've had a Guardsman dog cage for years now in our P38 then had it modified to fit our L322. They are built by Athag and I think they supply the police with their dog unit cages. They are also fitted with escape doors on the front incase of a rear end shunt where you can't get the tailgate open.

Thanks to Nick, I now have a Barjo cage. It’s great.

Thanks to eBay I also have a TransK9 box. Which is also great but just a little smaller in every dimension. I’ll stick it in the for sale section in a while.

Here’s the Barjo in situ. I’ve combined it with the Boot Buddy rigid liner (excellent), rubber boot mat (inside the cage though) and the Boot Buddy Safe-d-Guard (Perspex dog guard) and the TransK9 Boot opening protector (rubber) to keep the mud away from the car.
