First FF, why did i wait???

Hi Guys,

Already had a couple of post responded to for help, so thanks to those guys already, and hello to everyone else. Had the usual V8 disco2, misubishi shogun's, BMW's etc and decided that I wanted the full fat experience. Had it for 5 days, 3 trips into north wales (around 200 mile round trip each time), for hikes and pickups of my lads from expedition's, I can say this is the best 4x4 I have ever had.

Got everything crossed that things stay working as long as poss, but being on the safe side, I am going to book it in for a full service and fluid change.

Not a tech on cars, but if I know something I am happy to share Thumbs Up

Just amazed at the power it can put out, no strain like the shogun seemed to have, and doesn't sound like a tractor. Filled after the first Wales trip, done over 400 miles on the last 2 trips, average of 34.5 and over 1/3rd of a tank left, a lot better than I thought. Should have got it years ago with all the comfort.

Thats quiet good btw.. My 3.6 does 31mph and thats me being very light on the foot sticking at 70mph cruise control. In the town its like 19 to 20mpg.

You are right about some Shoguns sounding like tractors, mine was good and it was a shame to let it go.. It just wasnt going to hold the value in an years time.

Wondering if remapping would help with the fuel consumption. Current:

Well it's back to sitting in traffic for the journey into work again tomorrow, so I will monitor what I get doing that. Either way, happy to sit on a wheeled sofa while I do it Smile

Fuel numbers

Well, a couple of months in, getting around 27-28mpg on the 15 mile runs to work in stop start traffic M6/62
Did the first run to the lakes with the tintent (double axel 1.7t) and managed 25.5mpg
and motorway runs still getting upto the 35mpg @70ish

Already had the DPF warning after going over Hardknott pass a couple of times, and not getting over 1200rpm for a couple of weeks, but soon had that cleared on the run back to Coniston.

Only thing missing is a sticker Very Happy

I wasn't towing the tintent up Hardknott, The car would do it, but at almost 8m in length, then the ff on top, it would be tight Smile, and lots of banging as it got dragged around some of the bends.

Didn't use low gears, didn't feel the need to, but it would have made it even easier.

I think the difference in mpg figures is mainly due to the difference between a 4.4TDV8 and a 3.6.

The larger engine certainly feels smoother and more powerful to me but what really distinguishes the 4.4 is the 8 speed box - I got 32.5mpg on the way back from Norfolk last weekend and that was mostly A roads with some spirited overtaking at times.

The get up and go of the later car really shines through in those situations. 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ
2014 (L405) VSE in Black with Ivory
2011 (L322) VSE in Black with Ivory
2005 (3.2 V6) Porsche Cayenne in Black with Savanna
1999 (P38) VSE in Burgundy (?) with Sand
